What to Know

Critics Consensus

Packed with colorful world-building that's as frenetic as it is weightless, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie's visuals are often out of this world but the threadbare story ultimately loses its Milky Way.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie settles for moments of visual inspiration that replicate the little rushes of opening up new worlds in one of the games, while letting almost every character stagnate into bland affability Go to Full Review

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is undoubtedly a visual assault—and whether that’s appealing or revolting is up to the individual—but there’s no denying the creativity and energy on display. Go to Full Review

Given the first film's success and the fanbase it helped build for this sequel, you can't help but wonder why the instinct is still to go wider instead of deeper, louder instead of more heartfelt. Go to Full Review

A frenzied film with a patchwork plotline. It’s bright and shiny on the outside, but hollow throughout... Though its messy, convoluted journey may be enough for those who worship, for the rest of us, there are only two words that come to mind: "Mama mia!" Go to Full Review

Isha 40m Never got to watch the movie fandango ruined it for me See more thewrightjason 2h It was a fun movie that looked good and had a lot of incredible sound and visual effects. There's so much detail in the animation and everything else. It was just way too fast-paced and felt like a dizzying experience, going from scene to scene with so many different plot points, and nothing ever really gets resolved. Yoshi is a great addition, but is brought in so quickly that it lacks all meaning. The impact of the character isn't felt as well as it could have been if the movie were more balanced and less overstuffed with characters. It was also a shame that marketing felt it necessary to drop a major spoiler with Star Fox in their campaigns. It ultimately really took away from the moment. There are a lot of funny moments and a lot of stuff folks won't get if they aren't super fans. See more Roberto 9h I am like the movie alot. My Nephew also like the movie. I am think going to see the movie again. See more Olivia 12h animation was absolutely amazing, would see again 10/10! See more Alan S 12h Lots of fan service, no real character arcs, lots of loose ends. Can’t recommend See more Gisselle 12h Great movie loved it ! See more Read all reviews
