Movie Info

During its 85-minute running time, this jarring experimental film takes a no-holds-barred look at the way women have been treated and depicted in Western art. Starting with Medieval paintings and continuing through the Renaissance and Dutch masters to modern abstractions, director Antoinetta Angelidi illustrates how artists can show females as somewhat less than warmly human. As she makes her points, Angelidi has the camera focus on canvasses and then brings them alive, creating a kind of horrific vision that emphasizes the worst among the historical and artistic attitudes toward women. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi

Audience Reviews for Topos

What's the deal with Topos aka Land,a place to's not about extracting any tormenting symbolism,it's what's the gist of it which matters the most. How is it possible though to understand the vice versa innuendos or the Inferno-Purgatorio-Paradiso allegory without transporting in this female game of clairvoyance? Birth/Innocence and Death/Fury become Gates of Redemption for the characters of this literal wasteland...Incoherent cries and whispers, seeking their destiny in a Nothing (?).....
