Movie Info

Taylor Wong Tai-loi spins this gangster yarn featuring Chow Yun-Fat. Though he has made a conscious attempt at leading the straight and narrow life, Man-ho (Yun-Fat) is obliged to take the helm of the Hung Hing clan after his crime boss father is murdered. With the gang in complete disarray after the assassination, rival groups start encroaching on Hung Hing's turf. Man-ho reluctantly agrees to take the reigns of power and immediately starts to negotiate a peace. Unfortunately, a mad dog mobster aptly named Coffin Rope (Lung Ming-yan) refuses to settle up and eventually kills a member of Hung Hing. When the guy is captured, Man-ho refuses to kill him, which proves to be a massive mistake -- not only does he still have to deal with Coffin Rope but he alienates his right-hand man Yeung Kong (Roy Cheung Yiu-yeung).

Audience Reviews for Triads: The Inside Story

It's not my idea of fun getting beaten up! Li Man-Ho is a business man that comes home after his father is brutally murdered. His father is in charge of a Triad gang that is weakened after his assassination by a rival gang. Li is an honest man who wants nothing to do with violence, murder, and illegal activities; however, he may be forced to help his father's gang out or many lives may be lost. Taylor Wong, director of No More Love No More Death, The Truth, Spiritual Love, Pursuit of a Killer, Stars & Roses, and Rich and Famous 2, deliver Triad: The Inside Story. The storyline for this picture is not very well presented or executed. It felt unnatural and awkward. The cast delivers below average performances and includes Chow Yung-Fat and Kenneth Tsang. I came across this picture on Netflix and thought the film may have potential. Unfortunately, the film starts promising with a documentary feel with facts about the Triads, but then becomes a poor gangster film. I recommend skipping this. Grade: D
