Critic Reviews for At Home With Amy Sedaris Season 1

If you ever thought that daytime lifestyle shows needed more of Jane Krakowski belting, then Amy Sedaris has some wonderful news for you.

Sedaris remains, as ever, hilarious, inventive, unbalanced and deeply, joyously, shamelessly twisted. Her new show's not bad either.

At Home With Amy Sedaris is itself a disturbing and delicious beast, a sendup of TV home shows that draws on Ms. Sedaris's sunshiny comic versatility to explore the dark oddities in the back of the spice cabinet.

Dec 10, 2017 | Full Review…

It's this constant mocking of the expectations of femininity and being a woman and the things you're supposed to know and the things you're supposed to do. And I love how she keeps attacking that.

Nov 29, 2017 | Full Review…

Sedaris has an earnest desire to share her unique brand of hospitality. What she mixes up here is cozy and kooky, with a side of depravity.

She's never quite saturated the culture, and so those of us who love her are regularly left wanting more. With At Home with Amy Sedaris, at last we get our fix.

All I know is that I laughed harder during Tuesday night's back-to-back premiere episodes than I have at any other new show this season.

Sep 11, 2018 | Full Review…

What's slightly unexpected is how often it veers completely away from that format into something closer to an old-school variety show, except with a heavy dose of left-turn surrealism.

There's a lovely and delightful sloppiness to Sedaris's creations, which fall in line with her comedic aesthetic.

It's a delight. It's winter, and you need it.

At Home With Amy Sedaris...represents a best-case scenario for Peak TV's wide-open field.

Nov 15, 2017 | Full Review…

It's fun, it's wacky, it's everything Sedaris does best in one Technicolor package. Watching it really does feel like being at home with Amy Sedaris, one of comedy's purest and most earnest weirdos.

Audience Reviews for At Home With Amy Sedaris: Season 1

This is a great show, Amy Sedaris is funny and I love the retro/vintage vibe she has and brings to the show. Great celebrity guests she has on the show, also great cast members and the characters are charming I like this show.

    Totally off the wall.

I have seen several episodes of At Home with Amy Sedaris. The show is a comedy that seems like some combination of Rachel Ray, Life Hacks, and the craziest satirical comedy you could think of. It is generally well put together, and in small doses (such as 1/2 an episode), it actually can be comical and enjoyable. However, the comedy can be quite childish, and not unlike a heavy sweet such as cotton candy, exposure to this in excess of 1/2 an episode becomes a little bit too much to handle for this 25 year old viewer. As such, it is difficult to rate the show anything higher than a neutral 3 stars, as this viewer believes that a truly balanced work will maintain viewer enthusiasm across many demographics and without consideration to length (ie, why the masses continue to be captivated by works such as Titanic despite an incredible runtime).

Episodes 2, 3, 5, and 6, are Outstanding! Everything else but Episode 4 are just average. This season started out fairly strong, but then got bad by the end, just in terms of a comparison between the two "half's!"

Fingers crossed for a second season!

This is the worst show I've ever seen. I don't understand what people see in this show. I can keep the channel on TruTV all day long everyday until her show comes on then I have to change it. Sorry just my opinion it's so annoying, she is full of herself.
  • Dec 12, 2017
My new favorite show! I enjoy someone at my skill level cooking and crafting. So educational for the kids learning about the outdoors and plant safety.
  • Dec 12, 2017
This is the funniest show on TV! Amy’s spin on homemaking is complete genius. I do have favorite episodes (Nature and The Holiday Special), but each show has its on special brand of side splitting comedy. Give me twisted all day long. My daughter keeps asking me how can she say her lines without laughing?!! I feel incredibly lucky to watch this show! So many things are so NOT FUNNY right now At Home with Amy Sedaris soars above it all!
  • Dec 02, 2017
Exactly what fans of her books would want to see!

So I joined RT specifically so I could give Ms. Amy her 5 stars. This show is a life-saving gem of hilarity that helps me make it through the week. Thank you NPR for doing the story that I heard that enabled me to know the show was on. Hopefully AHWAS will last even longer than Mindy’s show (almost as equally funny). 100% guaranteed deep chuckle, guaranteed!!!!
