Alex (Amanda Peet), a recently divorced lawyer with a young daughter and little patience for frivolity, hires a contractor named Pete (David Walton) to help her renovate her kitchen. Aware of his reputation as a womanizer, Alex, whose ex-husband was sent to prison for insider trading, is adamant that she will fire Pete should he present any problems. Of course, neither Alex's love life or home renovations go smoothly.
