He wasn't always Saul Goodman, ace attorney for chemist-turned-meth dealer Walter White. Six years before he begins to represent Albuquerque's most notorious criminal, Goodman is Jimmy McGill, a small-time attorney hustling to make a name for himself. He's a forceful champion for his low-income clients, an underdog whose morals and ambitions often clash. Jimmy works with private eye Mike Ehrmantraut, a former Philadelphia cop and recent transplant to the Southwest. Mike has a specialized skill set -- he's a "fixer" of sticky situations -- that Jimmy soon learns to appreciate.

Better Call Saul can’t quite match Breaking Bad’s bursts of adrenaline, and that shadow is always there. Instead, it plays a slower, more patient game, leaning into silences, small choices and moral grey zones. Watching Jimmy McGill slowly slide into Saul Goodman is both fascinating and painful: you understand why he does what he does, even when you’d like him to stop. The show shines in its characters: Kim grows from "the girlfriend" into a brilliant, conflicted force of her own, and Mike is the weary counterpoint who’s already made peace with the life he leads. Visually, it keeps the trademark style of this universe – bold compositions, desert light, and details that tell the story without a word. It may not be as explosive as Breaking Bad, but it’s more intimate and quietly devastating. By the end, it feels like you’re saying goodbye to people you actually know, and that sticks with you.

As Jimmy fully embraces his Saul Goodman persona, the ethical lines he and Kim are willing to cross blur more than ever. The main timeline moves closer to the events of Breaking Bad, with the Salamanca family intensifying through the charismatic and terrifying Lalo Salamanca. Kim's descent into a willingness to engage in Jimmy's schemes becomes a focal point of the tragedy.

5.0 stars; Deeply dark and yet funny at the same time. How do they do it?! Season after Season, the series is tightly written and acted. Even though it moves slowly sometimes to enhance character development, you just can't stop watching the trainwreck as Jimmy metamorphoses into the Saul we meet in "Breaking Bad".
