Critic Reviews for Chuck Season 1

All Critics (27) | Top Critics (16)

Check out the cute neuroses, the tousled air of disaffection, the indie-rock soundtrack: This is a post-Zach Braff action hero, a hunky version of Sensitive Guy.

The success of "Chuck" belongs mostly to Levi, who brings an appealingly unassuming tone to all of his scenes, both comic and action-based.

In an otherwise underwhelming new season, this geek rules.

A tasty escapist treat.

Chuck is a winner. My guess is that the ratings will proclaim it one, too.

Don't look now but Chuck just might be on verge of settling into a groove of watchable, sorta funny spy entertainment.

So there you have it, Chuck. A fun and innovative show, created and staring highly talented people.

Chuck is a completely improbable but highly entertaining romp through two worlds that rarely meet on TV: secret agents and high-tech nerds.

The inherent silliness of this setup could overwhelm a lesser actor, but Levi brings so much charm and likability to the titular character that the show works.

Oct 11, 2018 | Full Review…

The geeky side of the show is relatively campy and light and a sudden tone-shift to super-serious spy shit might be a bit too much. By wisely keeping the spy of things light as well, "Chuck" manages to keep a relatively fun overall tone.

Chuck ultimately feels like Seth Cohen has been thrown into the middle of an Alias episode, and that makes for a great combination.

I've gotten to see how all the pieces fit together, and how this charming show takes formulaic action plots and mixes them with geek comedy to create something entirely unique

Audience Reviews for Chuck: Season 1

    Just funny, dorky and sweet
  • Apr 17, 2020
One of the best series ever. Funny, quirky characters, a superb distraction.
  • Feb 17, 2020
Can't believe I didn't hear about this at the time it was released.
  • Jan 03, 2019
Just watched the pilot episode. One of the best pilots I've seen in a long time. Zachary Levi is really funny and endearing, Yvonne Strahovski is a good love interest, and Adam Baldwin is absolutely insane as Casey.
  • Nov 04, 2018
Horrible. Very slow pace. Dumb main character. Not worth the time to watch it.
  • Aug 17, 2018
Chuck is one of my favorite TV shows ever. The chemistry is great and the development is exceptional. Watch it!
  • Jan 01, 2018
My favourite live action tv show ever it has some very entertaining action scenes and very well developed characters.
  • Jan 17, 2016
With a great mix of comedy and criminal cases, the season always stayed interesting.
  • Jul 09, 2015
The humor is sharp and the cast boasts good chemistry. Levi and Gomez really sell their misfit characters, though both of them do such a good job of it it annoys the mess out of me. The action sequences are comically ridiculous, as is the acting. This is likely just a personal thing, but I wasn't a big fan of the show.
  • Nov 01, 2014
Loved it! This show is tons of fun.
