Tv Season Info

Luke Rutherford (Christian Cooke) is leading the normal, somewhat boring life of any London teenager, when an incredible revelation about his ancestry rocks his world. His late father's best friend, Rupert Galvin (Philip Glenister, LIFE ON MARS), travels all the way from America to reveal to the oblivious teenager that he is the last descendant of Abraham Van Helsing, the famous vampire-werewolf-and anything-in-between slayer. Rupert offers to train Luke for his new duty, and demonstrates a certain expertise in getting rid of evil creatures... being an accomplished demon-hunter himself. Another fundamental aid to the youngster's supernatural new mission comes from none other than Mina Harker (Zoe Tapper, SURVIVORS), a good-hearted, blind, piano virtuoso vampire, once romantically linked to Dracula. To complete this unusual squad comes Ruby, Luke's clever and enamored best friend. Will Luke be up to the demanding role of World's new defender against evil?

Is it a bit too similar to Buffy? Sure. But it's not a total replica. It's more like an extension of its predecessor. Or maybe an alternate, male, Buffyverse. Either way, it's entertaining enough that you can forgive it for ripping off the basic premise.

While Demons doesn't completely set itself apart from the pack, it's certainly better than average.

Saturday nights are so devoid of quality programming that Demons could easily be what you're looking for but if it's your first foray into the work of BBC America, you should know that it's far from the best they have to offer.

Lacking the subtext, satire and snappy talk that made Buffy golden, Demons has little on its mind past raising spooks and smiting them, but it does a fair enough job of that.

Demons is an undistinguished jaunt into the paranormal, with a bland young stake-wielder at its center - he of the piercing eyes and Harry Potter hairdo, who must balance passing his driving test with thwarting ancient evils.
