"Doctor Who" is a classic science-fiction series with a cult following. The Doctor is called a "Time Lord," a time-traveling scientist from a far-off planet who travels through time and space in a shop known by the acronym TARDIS. A TARDIS is a machine that is larger on the inside than the outside and is supposed to change its appearance based on its surroundings. The Doctor is also able to evolve his biology, so he appears as many different people throughout the series. The Doctor loves Earth, so he makes many trips here to save the planet, or to enlist earthlings to help him with tasks in the galaxy.

"Time" is a formulaic exercise on a rather standard Doctor Who plot. Go to Full Review

The Seventh Doctor would turn out to be far, far better than "Time and the Rani" indicated. Go to Full Review

Aside from the usual growing pains in establishing a new doctor's identity, though, "Time and the Rani" suffers from the fact that it's a mediocre story. Go to Full Review

I tried, I really tried - having not seen it in probably 20 years - to find the beauty in it this time around, but alas, it largely escaped me once again. Go to Full Review

Audric D @RT32835801 06/17/2024 Since the season only had 4 stories, which was insanely short at the time, they had to make the most of them, which they failed so miserably at doing. Some of these are so utterly horrible that it makes me question why I still watch the show. The Time and the Rani was a cheesy and stupid episode that's trying to do everything at once, which is also littered with plot holes, Paradise Towers is a confusing and overstuffed story with no substance and it does not know what it's doing at all, and Delta and the Bannermen is stupid and rushed with the most unlikeable set of characters in the series. Even the Doctor is unlikeable. The best story is Dragonfire, which was just a mixed bag. Some parts I really liked, such as the introduction of Ace, but other parts I hated, such as the infamous cliffhanger where The Doctor hangs himself off of a ledge for no reason at all. I'm tired of people saying that the Chris Chibnall era is the worst, especially when this season exists. See more Tom B @RT16186644 12/28/2023 What a load of drivel! If I wanted slapstick I would watch some real comedians. Thank God for the prior Doctors! See more Wolfgang B @RT24521803 07/02/2023 Not a great start to the McCoy era, and arguably this season was the show missing it's chance to avoid cancellation, because the next two seasons are excellent, and could have been the start of the show's second golden era, but this season being so poor likely made up the minds of both audiences and BBC bigwigs who were already turned off science fiction See more 04/15/2022 McCoy's first season is certainly something that shouldn't be taken too seriously, and I know this one get's a lot of flack, but personally I adore the likes 'Time and the Rani' and 'Dragonfire' and consider them almost true classics for the McCoy era. See more Jonathan K @NojEsco 07/11/2021 And here we are - Season 24, the single most maligned Season of the classic series, and sadly, it's for good reason. When going from Colin Baker to Sylvester McCoy, the show picked up a far more bombastic visual/audio presentation, which did not go well with the underwhelming stories. Paradise Towers is okay enough, with some interesting worldbuilding and comedic elements, Time and the Rani isn't too bad, albeit it feels more like a couple of great ideas thrown into a story that could contain them, Dragonfire is pretty much just plain bad, and Delta and the Bannermen, WOW what a bad episode! Each episode has a handful of nice ideas, but for the large part, the Season is just a headache. Sylvester McCoy's performance as the new Doctor is fine, but not nearly as good as his darker performances in the following two years. Purely and simply, Season 24 was, until 2018, the lowest point the show had reached in terms of quality. See more 08/12/2018 OMG! Greatest ever season of any show ever!!!! I was hooked from the very moment old fatty pants Joseph turned into the wonderful Sylvester Stallone, who is simply marvellous. The Times of the Rani was simply an utter treat and Kate Mara is even better here than in House of Cards and as a plus she's got shoulderpads. Caramel from Coronation Street is sublime as Melody Brush and they have epic adventures including visiting the guy off the Good Life and turning him into a zombie; going to the 1940s with Ken Dodd to play some jazz and harvest honey and finally going to a frozen planet where a old man becomes like that guy from Raiders of the Lost Arc. We are also introduced to new companion Dorothy who wears the same costume of the later dr. Kristofer Ecillston and also likes to blow things up. Unforgettably Mrs. Brush has a shock exit from Tardis when she goes and bangs Mr. Glitter instead of Sylvester Stallone as Dr. Who. All in all, 5 stars! Can't wait to watch Season 25 now, hopefully it keeps up this level of quality. See more Read all reviews
