On its own terms, Dune: Prophecy is a fine show. It’s filled with excellent performances, dank but compelling production design, and intriguing little twists and turns. But it feels hemmed in by its status as a prequel.

The series clearly has “Game of Thrones” aspirations which in some ways hamper the early episodes. But it helps in other key ways, namely in its similar grand ambition that shines through in the storytelling, the terrific production design, and costumes.

Boring. Too many characters, hard to care about any of them let alone all of them. Doesn’t really add to the lore or world building of the movies in any significant way. The origins of the “voice” are revealed which was underwhelming. It’s essentially a chore to watch this show.

Visually striking, premise starts well, but I felt the Bene Gesseret were more akin to a bunch of schoolgirls making bad decisions, than a society manipulating the destiny of the known universe.

Started slow for me but all info they provide initially pays huge dividends later. Strong performances, especially Emily Watson and Olivia Williams. Fantastic world design. Anirul, the AI machine used by the Sisterhood, looked way cooler than I had ever imagined it, so credit to Territory Studio for that.

Dune: Prophecy is a very good addition to the Dune TV universe. There's plenty of political intrigue regularly punctuated with stylish action sequences. A great cast featuring Mark Strong, Emily Watson, Olivia Williams and Travis Fimmel plus a solid supporting cast makes this a very watchable SciFi action drama... and not just for Dune fans.

It's entertaining enough, and I really enjoy the Dune universe. I just wish this show was as clever as it seems to think it is. The Bene Gesserit scheming at times looks so obvious and plain to see, that it beggars belief the Padishah Emperor of the Known Universe (or any ruler, for that matter) would allow them so close to their power. The same goes for Travis Fimmel's shifty (yet supposedly charismatic?) character, who is played so on the nose that it's hard to believe anyone would feel okay with him being around at all. Thankfully the overall plot is interesting and there are some captivating performances, and I'm looking forward to the next season.
