Fena: Pirate Princess Season 1 starts out strong, with charming characters and gorgeous animation, but its swashbuckling adventure quickly gives way to a convoluted ending that drowns in its own ambitions. Go to Full Review

08/22/2021 I watched the two episodes that came out and there was a lot to unpackage. The story is all over the place with no rhyme or reason. Nothing is explained, it just happens. At first I thought that maybe the manga would explain, until I realized there was no manga. The show just acts like the viewers should know. Is Fena a servant at a brothel? did she get auctioned? Is she getting married? I really didnt know. Then hot blonde guy shows up and I am thinking, "Oh a hot love interest/protagonist or antagonist but no. We never see him again. There is no context for ANYTHING. But I was like, "ok well I really like the art style..." THEN EPISODE TWO THE ARTSTYLE GETS JUST AS BAD AS THE WRITING. It was like, they gave up. And not to mention how they cut her hair. They make it out like its going to be this big deal. but she just, for no reason, hacks it off, and it magically restructures her face shape to fit the new hairstyle. Like, ok, I know cutting your hair can change how your face shape is perceived, but it doesn't just change bone structure like how she did. That was some dark necromancy magic stuff right there. And lets not forget the fact that not only is the writing bad, but they try to do everything, follow architypes, while breaking the rules, and its just... dumb. It has really serious themes, but wastes full on 10 minutes with random bits that aren't even funny. You could argue that its because these bits are supposed to appeal to the asian audience, not for westerners... but the bits... sound like they were written by westerners to appeal to asians. SO I doubt the intended audience will be laughing either. ALSO WHY IS IT CALLED PIRATE PRINCESS WHEN EVERYONE IS A|NINJAS ON A SUBMARINE?!?!?!? WHYYYYYYY?!?!?!? Overall, I will be continuing to watch it. I just wont enjoy it. well maybe I will enjoy roasting with my friends. See more Read all reviews
