What to Know

Critics Consensus

With Kelsey Grammer safely back in the role he was born to play, Frasier scores as comfort viewing even if it can't quite compare to the classic original series.

It won't make you forget Niles, Daphne or Eddie, but Kelsey Grammer still brings the tossed salads and scrambled eggs. Go to Full Review
Don Aucoin Boston Globe 12/29/2023
Where the first iteration of Frasier blended witty dialogue and door-slamming farce with a celerity that Preston Sturges would have admired, the reboot feels like just another sitcom. And whatever else the first Frasier was, it was never that. Go to Full Review

Whether you’re a deep nostalgist or someone just happy that a new Frasier even exists, you likely won’t get much from this new go-around. Go to Full Review

Rebooting older brands is often a horrible idea, but this reboot of the acclaimed 1990s series of the same name has charm, chiefly in the form of Grammer. Go to Full Review

The ghost of Martin’s past is reason enough to revisit Frasier and give it a few episodes to let it settle in. Go to Full Review

Every detail of his mannerisms, his arrogant pretension, his frustrations, high-pitched vocal outbursts and lamentations are just as effective at 68 as they were at 38. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

John K @Jkckck Oct 10 Started out a little slow but picked up by season 2. It can never replace the original but still the same vibe. I really hope that it gets picked up so I can see more familiar characters from the original Fraiser. See more Edward S Aug 29 Absolutely dreadful. One of the rare shows that make you look forward to the adverts. An embarrassment for both the orange faced Grammer and the embarrassing Lyndhurst. The laugh track is unbearable, with the only hard hitting part of the show featuring in its blissful absence. See more Eric S. @Tigers-Movies24 Jul 13 While it took awhile for the new cast to grow on me and not seeing Niles or Daphne in it . Over all was a enjoyable revival of the show See more vividsoup s @vividsoup Feb 28 I loved the original Frasier . Really disliked the character on Cheers but once Frasier moved to Seattle Frasier developed into one of the best TV characters of all time. Now he's moved back to Boston and it doesn't work. I think there are two main problems with the reboot. First the writing is just bad. The jokes are flat. The dialogue weak and the plots lack the sophistication of the original. But that's not a huge problem, they can get a more talented team and better stories and the writing can be worked on and developed into a good show. Unfortunately, the second problem is much deeper, is not easy to solve, and makes fixing the writing problem pretty difficult. They've surrounded Frasier with the most horrible cast on television. It's not the actors that are the problem -- they do what they can with what they are given and no one stands out as a bad performer. The problem is the characters are just uninteresting, unlikable and shallow. First you haveFreddy who makes no sense at all. All through Frasier , Freddy was a brilliant kid who was pretty nerdy but a good kid overall. Now Freddy is hunky fireman because... well because we need him to be the opposite of Frasier in order to be Martin. So instead of developing a new interesting character they just forced Freddy into being Martin. This is what this talented team of writers did with all the characters. Oh Niles isn't coming back, no problem, we'll have his kid take his place. Only thing is the kid is so annoying and unrealistic, it makes me think I'm watching Saved By The Bell. Then we have Freddy's dead buddy's girlfriend. Why? Why is she there. She doesn't add anything -- guessing she's supposed to be our Daphne replacement. Lastly we have the university crew. Frasier's NEW best friend ever that he never ever talked about before has the personality of a jar of mayo. His one trait is that he drinks -- funny right? You know this guy drinks -- he's an educator and he drinks all the time. You just can't stop laughing -- the guy can't drink enough -- and everyone knows it. Oh by the way he's our Roz replacement. Finally we have the Dean -- she for some reason recruited Frasier to teach at Harvard because he' a celebrity because you know, Harvard was hurting and needed some celeb drawl. Closest I have for her is a Kenny replacement. These characters are so one-dimensional and uninteresting it's amazing. I'm only 3 episodes into the 1st season. It's taken me this long to be able to continue after the first 2 episodes which I watched when they first came out. I just started the 3rd episode yesterday and all my anger returned. How did these script writers get jobs? Did they not understand the original? They are horrible. Maybe it'll get better but I don't know how much more I can watch because it's ruining such a great character. See more Andrew B 12/03/2024 The first season has a nostalgic feel while building upon the original series roots. While it takes a bit to find its footing and properly build the new cast, they do a good job keeping you engaged and entertained. See more Jay W 11/20/2024 OK, clearly this is not as good as the original "Frasier" show, nor is it as good as "Cheers". But it is better than the other "Cheers" spinoff, "The Tortellis" (1987), so take that for what its worth. Going into this series I heard nothing but bad things. I personally thought the idea of a reboot was stupid. Leave things well enough alone. But as I gave the show a chance, I found myself laughing and enjoying more of the episodes than I thought. For good and for bad, the show plays like the original "Frasier". Complete with scene titles and laugh track. For those wanting the show to adapt with the times, will be disappointed. The show definitely feels the lack of Niles. Frasier's son Freddy can be really annoying. There is an episode where he throws a stink about Frasier saying, "my son is more than just a fireman." He sulks the whole episode because of this perceived offense. Kelsey Grammar is still just as good as ever and the jokes can still land. Let's hope that the following seasons can improve on the groundwork set up here. See more Read all reviews
