The series works methodically – and with admirable sobriety, given how excitable some true crime can get. Go to Full Review

... A well-made series, mindful to avoid seeming overtly sensationalist, although it doesn’t attempt to include any cod psychology to explain Fred West’s psychopathy, nor does it explore his childhood. Go to Full Review

While the three-part docuseries offers closure to victims' loved ones, there's no new information about this already infamous case. Go to Full Review

‘Fred and Rose West: A British Horror Story’ is a chilling look at depravity in its most unadulterated form. Go to Full Review

In its efforts to present a level-headed and well-rounded account of the story, the upsetting Netflix true crime series leaves out several crucial aspects of the case that inspired it. Go to Full Review

It borrows heavily from interviews and information already shown in ITV's documentary about these two notorious serial killers. This Netflix docuseries has slow pacing but is worth watching for previously unreleased police interviews with the killers. Go to Full Review

Sophie M Jun 6 It was interesting to hear the police interviews. It was all very surface in terms of facts. They could have delved into the history and background a bit more. Nothing was explored in any great detail, like what Fred and Rosemary's childhoods had been like, for instance, or any mental health or psychological assessments either of them had done by the police. They could also have had more detail on the court case from the barristers and from court transcripts. Initially, I found myself a bit lost regarding the events it portrayed, as I wasn't familiar with this dark chapter in English history, especially since it occurred during a time that wasn't on my radar. However, as I delved deeper into the story, it became clear just how haunting and disturbing the circumstances were. I felt a profound sense of sorrow for the victims, and it was evident that both Fred and Rose West deserved to face serious consequences for their heinous actions. What took me by surprise was the revelation of Fred's suicide during the documentary. I didn’t know the full extent of the story before watching, and it made for an unsettling viewing experience. Despite the discomfort it brought, I found the documentary to be compelling in its exploration of such a chilling narrative. However, I must admit that by the end, I was left feeling angry and frustrated. The brutal murders and the callous disregard for the victims' lives were infuriating. It’s a stark reminder of the depths of human depravity, highlighting the tragic reality of how psychopaths can dehumanize others. See more Connor S May 24 First and foremost, God bless these victims. This extended documentary did a phenomenal job at tying together how sick both sexes can be in aiding demonic and eventually forgettable behavior. And that's the needed word: forgettable. Because these monsters will be long gone while their victims still influence. And this documentary series did a wonderful job at this portrayal. See more Nicholas B May 21 The complexity of the story is not fully conveyed. Whilst moving at an easy, assured pace, it's undoing is mostly in the final episode which abruptly slams the door shut on the narrative. Leaving many pertinent questions unanswered or insufficiently explored it will surely frustrate many viewers. However, (and to be fair) there are always going to be unanswerable questions regarding this case, and it's somewhat refreshing that the series didn't get at all carried away with the sensationalism surrounding it either. Being respectful and sensitive to the victims families and even portraying an inspirational side to thier challenges, was a smart change of tact for Netflix. Still, it's a deeply messed up story. See more Becky M May 20 Glosses over SO much if the whole story in only the episodes and misses out much. You hear nothing if their pasts, the one woman who survived doesn't even tell her story and it doesn't go into Rose's appeal that was denied. The press paid most of the witnesses for their stories PRIOR to the trial, making it impossible to know anything beyond reasonable doubt. This was a flimsy and poorly made documentary.Although it was good great about the victim's family stories, it lacked a lot. See more Read all reviews
