What to Know

Critics Consensus

By turns a buoyant and wistful romance, From Scratch is an emotionally resonant miniseries that benefits from its Italian scenery and Zoe Saldaña's considerable dramatic chops.

Something you might describe as elevated Hallmark, as if it were studiously avoiding anything too revealing about the actual people it’s loosely based on. Go to Full Review

Fundamentally an expensive, well-acted, nicely written, very long Lifetime/Hallmark movie, what the Hollywood trades used to call a “weepie.” Go to Full Review
Caroline Framke Variety 10/21/2022
From Scratch builds a sprawling, messy, utterly believable family that can sell most any occasionally (if necessarily) cheesy line they get. Go to Full Review

From Scratch only thrives when Lino and Amy are going through those first meet-cute moments. A picturesque Florence looks like it’s made from a postcard and the blissful Italian cuisine. Go to Full Review

The series is frankly vital, since it finds happiness and meaning in small moments. Even at that point, it goes into kitsch over and over again. But still you can find her beautiful. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Esther P @Estherp Mar 4 One of the most honest, raw heartbreaking stories about love and life. It’s a true story and you felt too ! it - lot of relatable experiences particular about cancer and grief. Having lost my own brother, I felt it has a real impact for me. The direction and very specific.. carefully managed scenes were truly raw. It’s incredibly beautiful and haunting. Spoiler: I think it would help if someone who has lost someone close and loved, to watch this unfolding..knowing you are not alone with these profound experiences to share. I am so glad the last 3 episodes took it time and space to really feels this process. I cried and cried.. so beautiful!! See more Kristina T @Happyempress Feb 6 This was a painfully drawn out melodrama, with two actors who had zero chemistry. Hallmark at best, but more depressing and boring. Not worth the watch past the first couple episodes See more Rosey R. @Rosey26 Jul 26 Beautiful storyline about Love and Life. Incredible acting from adults to the child. I laughed, smiled and cried a lot. Highly Recommend! See more Rose D @RT59458196 Jul 18 This was an amazing heartwarming series. Be prepared to laugh and cry. The beautiful scenery of Florence is also a pleasure to see. The storyline of these two people who fall in love and go through what many people go through in their lives will bring to light a very special relationship. I very much enjoying the show.
