Critic Reviews for Blackwater
Of all the impressive feats accomplished by this remarkable episode, this may have been the greatest of them all, revealing the palpable sadness at the root of the Hound's sadism.
Welcome to 'Blackwater': This week, in Game of Thrones, we see who really has firepower in Westeros.
Blackwater was an instance of more being more, in terms of how big and exciting the battle scenes were, but it was also a case of less being much, much more.
I'm still trembling, even though this episode is over... [it's] an episode that was better than I expected, even if I had to fight my way through the gore of Battle of the Bastards.
It was a daring, action-packed episode that captured epic war at its most intimate and revealing moments.
The fallout from "Blackwater" will not only shape the next season, but also act as a marker for what Game Of Thrones is capable of at its very best. Magnificent.
All of the character stuff was pretty top notch.
It was a monster of an episode, unique in many ways not only in terms of the show, but in terms of television in general.
On a show that likes its violence over-the-top (yet also strangely realistic), Blackwater brings the sort of violence that the show has been building up to all season.
Game of Thrones successfully focused on a single event and group of characters, by bringing to life the all-pervading subject of warfare that has resonated throughout this season.
Even if the hour didn't entirely connect, it's still a mighty impressive feat for television.
Of course, when it came to the crunch Tyrion and Cersei stole the show once again.
