Critic Reviews for The Long Night
Daenerys and Jon's output was so pitiful here that I worry their alliance might not make it to the final conflict with Cersei. Either way, I'm glad the story can make its way south again, where the sun shines and the action is a little easier to follow.
"The Long Night" left me with mixed feelings that leaned toward disappointment and some confusion.
It's ... tidy, you've got to give it that.
I'm satisfied, but my eyes need a rest.
I do love "Game of Thrones," but in the middle of "The Long Night," my love was tested. The effort to pepper the battle with human set pieces lost out to shadowy bluster.
"The Long Night" ended up striking a very particular sort of tone, with plenty of action moments but also clearly conscious of the expectations heaped upon it.
If there's one thing "Game of Thrones" has taught us over the seven-plus seasons, it's that television can feel and look just as cinematic as the movies.
"The Long Night" was something magical and kudos to everyone involved in making something so beautiful, so perfect.
Game of Thrones, we take our hat off to you.
A good episode, but also the distinct underlying worry the show may have climaxed too soon.
The setup ended up being far better than the execution.
The show spent so much time drumming up the battle with the Dead and the prospect of the end of the world, that everything that comes after will be second fiddle in intensity and importance.
