To its credit, Halo isn’t making easy or safe choices. Even something as simple as the episode punctuating Halsey being Miranda’s mother, which is a deep cut that some longtime fans aren’t even aware of.

If ["Contact"] is the shape of things to come, then the long wait was worth it. Off the bat, the biggest surprise was in how the series managed to humanize Master Chief in a way that felt organic to the story.
