09/14/2020 Wow! Powerful. Albeit very hard to watch. This series honestly and without pulling any punches, delves headlong into the messy issues of religion, society, and politics . . . played out through the lives of a dysfunctional Danish clergy family (that has a 9 generation history of vicarage). As a committed Christian, what I appreciate about this series is that it wrestles with the hard questions of faith in a pluralistic world in which there are no pat answers . . . and it does so without diminishing God's presence and power as these faulty, broken humans anguish over life choices and consequences. Regards from viña del Mar, CHILE See more 03/15/2020 Lost to many in the infinity of Netflix series, this is one of the most disturbing, profound, beautifully acted dramas ever made for tv (or streaming). A bit mystical at moments, but so utterly down to earth at others, that even an atheist like me can feel the tremors of faith, desire, hatred, and love that purses through these amazing, amazing characters. Not a show to be gulfed down like another bag of chips. And not something to watch on the phone. Give these astonishingly good actors a screen and your attention. It will be worth it. See more 08/27/2019 This is the best series about religion, Christianity in this case, than I've ever seen. I didn't realize that until I watched the whole thing. Well before the series ended I flat out thought it was one of the best series I've ever seen, in terms of acting, script, and the music. It wrestles successfully with deep and complex questions of faith, guilt, forgiveness--of self as well as others--love, betrayal, beauty, duty. It's like going to church, in a good way, even for non-theists. It is transcendent. Also in Danish with subtitles, which is difficult but possible to transcend. :-) See more 06/17/2019 Surprisingly intense and moving, this is spectacular drama about family dynamics and painful human condition of coming to terms with oneself in the backdrop of a " religous " family.
