Critic Reviews for How I Met Your Mother Season 5

What follows is HIMYM at its farcical best.
The show's been in a groove in terms of performances, pace and pithiness-the three Ps of successful sitcoms-but it's been a little strained when it comes to the emotional underpinnings that make this more than just an agreeable half-hour of comedy.
As usual, the best bits came from the rightly celebrated Neil Patrick Harris.
This season has not been the unmitigated disaster that some seem to think; there have been plenty of high quality episodes and a couple of series high points. But it's been a rough ride, especially since we got back from that mini-hiatus.
Last night's season finale of "How I Met Your Mother" was a nice, fairly low-key send-off to end the season.
Season five may not go down as one of the show's best seasons, but it still provided plenty of laughs and memorable moments, especially throughout the latter half.
It was a season of ups and downs, with a handful of fantastic standalone episodes sandwiched within so-so storylines (and one that didn't work at all).

Oct 13, 2015Aahhh :(! When the a Comedy-Drama Series, completlly kills the fun part out of it and brings plot twists in, which have absolutly no sense, you no it's wrong. But not everything was bad. Some highlight episodes like 'Slapgiving 2: The Revenge on the Slap' were in. It was creative, innovative and funny. But then there were some episodes like 'Jenkins', that were not funny, or made sense, had a good story or anything like that. Well, the mainstory in the whole season was more average than good. And Barney again was the best in the whole season, especially in the beginning. Where dumb episodes like 'Robin 101' were funny, because of him. One thing I have to mention is that the writers, can make awesome final episodes! 6,5/10, not really that good.

Mar 20, 2015There's a lot more good than bad in this season, but it still doesn't change the fact that the show seemed to really want to grasp at straws to keep the show afloat. Regardless, this season delivered the most memorable HIMYM episode of all time with "The Playbook' - which alone ensured this season's success. Oh, there's plenty more to enjoy here...but that episode (and maybe "The Perfect Week") really helped Season 5.
