Bee B @RT66293970 Nov 27 For true fans of Jane Austen's novels, TV or movie adaptations never come more accurate than this. A near perfect adaptation of Mansfield Park, this series remains true to the novel and in classic BBC style has some wonderful acting and very quirky characterisations. Be aware it was filmed in 1983 so production values are not what they are today but in a sense this only adds to the sense you are stepping back into the past. Mansfield Park is Austen's least exciting novel so the pace is slower than her other works but the subtlety of her writing and genius comes across in this script, giving the plot and characters room to breathe. All the highlights of the novel are included here. The characters use the language of Austen, it has not been simplified for modern audiences, which is very refreshing. If I had one slight quibble it is that the two actors playing the lead roles of Fanny Price and Edmund Bertram are slightly strained at dramatic moments and perhaps a little miscast, but overall this is forgivable. Highly recommended! See more Read all reviews
