What to Know

Critics Consensus

An ambitious meditation on grief and faith that is as gorgeous as it is unsettling, Midnight Mass's slow boil is a triumph of terror that will leave viewers shaking - and thinking - long after the credits roll.

While some of the show's themes are talked to death, others wither away, undeveloped. Go to Full Review

Midnight Mass brings us an even handed look at the themes of religion, death, and what it means to live a good life amongst those who do evil even when they believe themselves to be acting in the name of God. Go to Full Review

Midnight Mass isn’t really pro- or anti-religion, but rather a contemplation on the power it holds and how easily it can be warped into something hideous, particularly when institutionalized. Go to Full Review

Angel F. @angeldavidfb Jan 7 Prob the “slower” pace in the Mike shows but honestly the build up is insane. Really love it. See more Cyns Corner Jan 6 NOTE: Transferred review from Letterboxd. Finished on September 26, 2021. Boy oh boy, was this GOOD!!! Video review: https://youtu.be/dZ3VvpS19rs See more Ivona S @Ivona Dec 9 It's a good watch, you def won't feel like you wasted your time, it can drag on but still it's 7ep not 24ep. What I liked about this series the most is how it captures religion and it's forms depending on how you live your life. That we all have a different view on it, based on our lifestyle, relationships and mental health. And how you being selfish, can lead you to believing you're doing the right thing, and jealousy of connections lead you to ruin peoples lives. The end feels like it was thought through in a hurry, and the question is why did it have to have such a deep ending that dragged on, yes the message was nice but leave the thinking to the viewer too? See more Aamir M. @saamirm Nov 23 Incredibly, thoughtfully written, superbly acted, suspenseful, perfect! Never have I felt so much joy and hope for a small isolated village as the inhabitants resurrect their dying community only to see them literally tear each other apart. A fantastic dive into the monster that is religious fanaticism. See more Jordan R Nov 21 Pretty good and original. However, I have a feeling that Mike Flanagan and possibly Jamie Flanagan (whoever writes the unsolicited soliloquies) loves the sound of their thoughts coming out of an actor's mouth. Get ready for word salad tyrades. See more Nicky A Nov 20 I do have to admit, I had some trouble getting into it. But once I was, I couldn't take my eyes of the screen. Amazing story line and when you think about it, it's deeper than it seems. Truly a series to give you something to think about later. Adored it. See more Read all reviews
