It's refreshing to see these documentarians strive for a tone of quiet empathy instead of focusing on the potential for drama. Go to Full Review

Jasper W @RT81270966 12/08/2024 I was not expecting much when I started to watch it but quickly engaged with the central couple (who are lovely) and their personal journey. I particually connected with the peripheral characters (parents and ex partners) who were each on a very different journey of their own. The film makers were careful not to create heros and villans (except the senior leaders of the Morom church who were not shown in favourable light) but take time to show the struggles each person was going through and how they developed as individuals. As a UK based, straight male atheist, the US obsession with religion feels completely alien to me, but this documentary helped give me an insight in to it. Well worth a view See more Larry C @RT02656945 04/15/2024 We really enjoyed the show as it showed the struggles that many deal with in high demand religions. See more Sarah A @Padlock 02/26/2023 Sweet love story of two women who broke out of the Mormon church. See more 07/17/2022 If you love the same sex please do not broadcast it. I would never want my children seeing this stuff, not only my grandchildren! See more 07/13/2022 The show felt highly contrived and even scripted like other so-called "reality" TV shows. There is no way that Sally's parents abandoned their faith just in time for their daughter's wedding. Everything about this family's "evolution" felt entirely scripted down to their casual family conversations. These are longtime, hard-core inactive or former members who agreed to do this hatchet job on the church for their own vanity. Lena's phone conversation with her former mission president was another complete setup as were most of the scenes in all four episodes. If they were genuine, then thank you for showing us the true shallowness of those who choose to be Mormon no more so they can show off heir bare shoulders. How liberating! Truly a sad statement on humanity in general. See more jona i @RT86387422 07/12/2022 A more specific title would have fit better to more fully pinpoint the subject, especially since not all of the stories we follow are of ex-members. It does unfold interesting, engaging stories. Each episode could've been better focused with the varying examples. And while the sharing of these people's understanding of each other and of the Mormon church is interesting, some of their understanding is actually misunderstanding, though that is never clarified. In all, it would have been serviced by better focus and by more rounded attention to its subject matter--however, that would probably take much more than four episodes. See more Read all reviews
