Critic Reviews for Orange Is the New Black Season 7

All Critics (34) | Top Critics (13)

Piper's position at the very end of Orange Is the New Black was predetermined. Taystee's represented a choice on the part of the writers. No show of the current era has so sharply used juxtaposition to depict inequality in America.

OITNB leaves the air a pioneer that hardly any other series has caught up to-and with some of its best episodes in years.

That's one of the problems with OITNB - there are so many characters with so many varied issues that we can be left feeling a little short-changed.

Moving, emotional final season that hits mostly high notes, and satisfactorily resolves a whole lot of stories.

The final season of Orange mostly works and does give a compelling, emotional farewell to these characters that we've grown to love.

Despite the contrivances, Orange is the New Black grips so hard you'll forget the cat's burning and the dinner needs to go out.

After six long years, the show manages to deliver a thoroughly satisfying final season that will make you laugh, cry and clench your fists in equal measure.

One of the best of the peak TV era with barely a false note to be heard.

The show must escalate conflict while at the same time wrapping up individual stories...Orange Is the New Black... complete this task well, even if predictably most of the time.

Jul 29, 2019 | Rating: 4/5 | Full Review…

I was left in awe of the characters from Orange is the New Black who saw prison for what it was - a hopeless hellscape - and still managed to tap into their pre-prison humanity and infect others with their kindness.

Audience Reviews for Orange Is the New Black: Season 7

What I learned in the final season of this show: Everybody in prison is just misunderstood. All white males are jerks, coming into work shaking their dicks at their coworkers every day and have no capability for empathy. A few night classes and some ethnic diversity and you can run a prison with near zero experience. Every prison guard has a power complex. Everybody involved in immigration wants the worst possible outcome for detainees. All prison guards are corrupt. Lesbian sex is the only way women can be satisfied. Artistic Misandry has gotten way too out of control. This could have been such a great opportunity to help people understand the real issues of the prison system and women's prison in particular. Instead blind hatred of a gender has botched the job and prevented any real understanding again...

I binge watched ever other season and was eager to see the final season. I was disappointed and stopped watching a few episodes in. Obvious, boring, and lacking creativity.

Woke garbage. I enjoyed the first two initials seasons of the show but it keeps getting more woke and less entertaining. Someday these writers will figure out that Their audience does not want woke garbage in their shows and instead would like a decent story

Uzo Aduba and Lori Petty for me the best actresses, omg, a final season too spectacular.

    great series love it

I used to really like the show in the beginning of the series. I don't like this season even though its gotten more interesting. It's gotten SO preachy about liberal talking points and it's downright hostile to white men. I've seen 2 white men so far prematurely ejaculate leaving the women frustrated. in the previous scene 2 women have glorious perfect sex with each other. Clearly there's an agenda there. However the Hispanic man that Alieda has sex with is an incredible lover. We get it! white men are the devil and are inferior, don't mate with them.

Fabulous and absolutely eye opening for those who suffer with these issues. Brilliant.
  • Aug 31, 2019
a beautifully executed story, the last season tried to get into the political scene thought

This is likely the worst season. I have to agree with the other negative reviews. The writers really screwed this show up in the last season. They took a good show, with compelling, real feeling characters, and got too preachy and turned the characters from real people into crummy two dimensional cookie-cutter puppets designed to push an agenda. I did make it through the season, but it was pretty hard with the last 4 episodes. The final episode has to be one of the worst finale shows in TV history. All the complexity, realness, and power of the characters was lost this season, replaced by schlock, twists, turns, and trying to tie everything up into this tight little box for everyone to fit into nicely. It's the sort of garbage you see on Lifetime Movie Network. Personally I blame Jenji Kohan for this. She managed to screw up Weeds, a great show at the beginning, and and utterly terrible show when it ended. I sort of expected the same thing to happen, and it (mostly) did, though not quite as bad, since Weeds died after about 3 seasons, and Orange had a little more life to it. Jenjii likes to massively change her characters, and by the end you start to not even recognize them after a while. This is what happened this season. My wife bailed on the last 4 episodes, honestly a good call on her part.

The show is wonderful, from the cast to the writing to the shooting of every scene. Of course it had some down time but even then it was an absolute blast to watch.
