Sarah is a street-wise woman with a troubled past as an English orphan who bounced around foster homes before being taken in by Mrs. S, who uprooted her and her foster brother, Felix, to North America. She has made bad decisions in her life but always strives to do right by daughter Kira. When Sarah witnesses the suicide of Beth, a woman who looks like her, she decides to steal Beth's identity -- boyfriend and money included -- in an attempt to begin a new life for herself and Kira, with whom Sarah hopes to reunite. But assuming Beth's life -- Sarah eventually learns that Beth was her clone -- doesn't go as smoothly as she anticipates because Beth was a cop caught in the middle of a deadly conspiracy, making Sarah the new target. Sarah must fight to stay alive while trying to escape from the complex web. As more threads appear, Sarah is pulled deeper, and Felix becomes her one true confidant.

It's also the show's biggest weakness. The parade of clones and situations makes it difficult for new or casual fans to stay connected. And if the mythology gets too dense, viewers can stop caring about the characters. Go to Full Review

Orphan Black is fast-paced and deliciously dripping with conspiracies, double crosses and shady characters with opaque loyalties. Go to Full Review

Orphan Black lost its grip on the story sometime early in season 2, and introducing even more characters has not proven to be a way to reclaim it. Go to Full Review

Admittedly, the best moments are front-loaded in seasons 1 and 2, but the entire five-season run enriches its world of scientists, police detectives and military operatives. Go to Full Review

Orphan Black's finales have offered a series of escalating twists, and this one is the most bonkers of all of them - taking the series from the realm of weird sci-fi to hard sci-fi in one fell swoop. Go to Full Review

Nathan E @RT57746047 08/19/2023 STELLAR casting, astounding work by Tatyana Maslany See more Rareş M @RT60134910 01/28/2021 Maslany is brilliant in the third part, in which the storyline is developed in a great way. See more 08/22/2020 Maslany continues to impress, but even that cannot stop the boredom of the Caster plotline. The story is confusing and contrived to give the impression of drama. It picks up nearer the end of the season, but that is more due to the Maslany's screen downtime and less about the story. See more jack z @oceanic815 04/03/2020 If I ignore the overarching mystery, Orphan Black is still as good as it used to be solely because of Alison, Helena, and Cosima. The plot at this point, however, has become so increasingly tangled in its own convoluted web that it's boring and not worth my effort anymore to try and figure it out. I don't know who is a good guy or a bad guy. I don't know the difference between Topside, Dyad, Neolution, Proletheans, and whatever's up with the military woman, or what any of them have to do with each other. I don't know why Leda and Castor are even against each other. It seems like every other episode Mrs. S and Delphine are good guys then bad guys again. In fact every episode some series-long character is revealed to have had a sinister secret that's convenient to the plot at that moment in time. Most of the cliffhangers involve someone getting kidnapped then getting rescued in the next episode (it's usually Kira). This is an unsolvable mess, and I gave up long ago trying to pay attention to every minute detail in order to piece it all together. Now I just watch to make sure my favorite characters survive episode-to-episode. See more 03/05/2018 Problematic The depiction of the abuse of women on tv may be common, however, it will never be normal to me. I Was already watching the show because there was nothing else and I needed to put something on. I gave up completely on the series in season 2 due to the unnecessary inclusion of a scene where one of the clones had been forcibly inseminated. I have had it with shows like this especially like the handmaid's tale, in normalizing this kind of sick fascination with the abuse towards females. I don't understand why this kind of sht is fed into by the general masses but you should ask yourself WHY if you do. See more 01/05/2018 Kind of a digression from the series up to this point, but introduces developments important to the conclusion of the show. See more Read all reviews
