QD Q @RT28695354 Aug 12 Somewhere into season 2 is where you really see the show go a bit downhill. Passion projects come across more like vanity projects. The lack of satisfaction of resulting season 1 projects was blamed on not doing things yourself or not doing it right the first time. But arguably there a seem to be some goggles on here. For ex., the brick path... they really wanted to go back to that, but it became about how they were "outvoted" instead of the fact that the original brick path had no design and was not done properly. I'm sure there was some past behind the scenes conferring to decide that a structured brick layout and having a team do it was better than randomly scattered bricks to try to give the appearance that the path was "100 years old". The results were great, but no design discussion. Just more examples of how effective communication with your working team is better than 'I've designed beautiful homes before'. Pamela has a ton of what she sees are passion projects, like the flower shop. Cute idea, love it. But why not portray it for what it is, a cute idea. The actual store was full of flowers supplied by a real florist. This is cute staging vs a store. Her sons had projects you could follow, and a designer involved. I would've loved to see it focus more on the good design solutions that came up vs the boys, especially the oldest, coming across as people with more experience than they actually had, or how they have "great taste." It would've been nice to focus more on the learning experience of it all. One ex.: it is not uncommon for CUSTOM cabinets to have a couple of months lead time. There are people making these things after all. And a project usually will plan for this. They gave themselves a Pat on the back for finding someone to do it in two weeks. The reality is this is a big accommodation from someone Paula (gf and designer) knew and the only pat on the back is for having "access" to these people that moved up the project for them with some overtime I'm sure. I'm still yet to decide if it's worth it to watch any potential continuation to see what happens with the boathouse, which is one of the big gems of the show. But this season left something to be desired. See more Read all reviews
