The acclaimed "Act of Killing" finds former Indonesian death-squad leader Anwar Congo and his friends, who helped kill more than a million people during the 1965 military takeover of their country, re-enacting their roles in the atrocities. To them and many countrymen, however, the slaughter was not a nightmarish event, but a patriotic endeavor. Yet, as he re-enacts the events, for the first time in his life Anwar unexpectedly confronts the consequences of his long-ago actions.
