Critic Reviews for Riverdale Season 2

All Critics (15) | Top Critics (4)

This show is as good as TV melodrama gets, achieves maximum bang for it buck in delivering that melodrama without betraying the characters, and also it looks great. Riverdale is no joke.

Oct 12, 2017 | Full Review…

[K.J.] Apa is at his best here - expressive and a little bit frantic in a way that makes him more endearing than he ever had been in season 1.

The plot, much like cold maple syrup, thickens!

Oct 19, 2017 | Full Review…

Season 2 maintains much of that fun. While the characters are still engaging, the central mystery fails to capture the lightning in a bottle intrigue that kicked off season 1.

Oct 30, 2018 | Rating: 3/4 | Full Review…

Riverdale embraces madness, salting and debauchery without inhibiting, without the soap opera being half-full. [Full Review in Spanish]

Jul 2, 2018 | Full Review…

Really anything that gives Alice more of a prominent, major role in a storyline is fine by me.

Jun 21, 2018 | Rating: 3/5 | Full Review…

Riverdale uses popular culture to explicate, and magnify, its themes and preoccupations, only through an expressly feminine perspective.

Dec 12, 2017 | Full Review…

But I fear its concern with crime and punishment, with the guilt that always seems to accompany sin, has made it so grave, in form as in function, that saving it from itself demands a super-heroic effort of its own.

Nov 30, 2017 | Full Review…

Riverdale is a pitch-perfect teen drama.

Oct 12, 2017 | Full Review…

The narrative is still unbalanced, with hormones once again taking over as melodrama masquerades as intrigue. It was everything we've come to expect from Riverdale.

Oct 12, 2017 | Full Review…

In its second season, Riverdale again establishes a strong central mystery, but the man in the black hood is quite different and already much more violent.

Oct 12, 2017 | Full Review…

[Betty and Veronica's competitiveness] fits neatly into the canon: You're either the Madonna or the whore. Maleficent or Princess Aurora. Sandy or Rizzo. We've got two choices, ladies, and both are reductive.

Audience Reviews for Riverdale: Season 2

  • Feb 06, 2021
This season, in my opinion, goes head to head with the 1st due to the Serial Killer that appears in Riverdale, however, the series begins to show weakening in relation to the interior year.
  • Feb 05, 2021
As perfect as season 1 was, season 2 was even BETTER. This is the season where basically everyone flocked to it, and it shows. Same great chemistry with the characters, except now we get to delve deeper, branch out, and tackle an even better mystery. What's better, is that S2 introduces the perfect villain for the show.

In case you haven't noticed, I'm weird, IM a weirdo I don't fit in and I don't WANT to fit in Have you ever ween me with this stupid hat on? THAT'S WEIRD!
  • Nov 28, 2020
Just not good in any way.
  • Oct 18, 2020
No comment this was just straight up horrible. This makes me want to die.
  • Aug 26, 2020
My only question is how is this certified fresh. Actually, scratch that. How does this have over a 40%. The writing is that of a middle school fan fic writer. There is no overarching plot. It is inconsistent. It's obvious they have no end goal in mind and have no idea what they're doing next. When they get renewed for a new season, that's when they even begin to think about long term plot points. The acting isn't horrible; I mean it's hard to have good acting with horrible writing. I thought it'd get better with time, but they never fail to disappoint.
  • Aug 03, 2020
The mystery is nearly as good as the first and the expanded role for the supporting cast is appreciated.
  • Jun 03, 2020
This is the best season of them all. The black hood is a crazy, dark and very entertaining murderer. I also really like the twist which reveals, that it's Betty's dad. They also focused on Hiram Lodge, which was very fun, because they weren't limited on one storyline. It was a perfect season overall.
  • May 12, 2020
Literally the dumbest show anyone could ever watch 👎👎👎
  • May 10, 2020
The black hood story will keep you tied to your screen the whole way throughout the seasons and many twists and turns. This season is much better than season 1.
