Season one hurtles towards a climax that is simultaneously brilliant and crazy, featuring multiple betrayals, the forming of new alliances, and the uncovering of Quinn's secrets.

Season one is a solid appetizer that lays a solid foundation for Olivia's future, and it delivers one of the show's greatest finale twists.

Viewers who get hooked on Scandal will spend the commercial breaks sussing out its take on love and work, and the experience will be rather like trying to discern the exact composition of flavors in a tasty batch of BBQ potato chips.

Although Scandal is not a politics show, the series does seem to owe a little to The West Wing - in particular, the fast-fast-fast, mannered dialogue.

Everything in Scandal is perfect; the trench coat, the offices, the politically correct subplots, the baby in a box - and perfect quickly stops resonating with those of us who are not. It's entertaining, though.

Scandal is the intriguing new drama from Grey's Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes. It's built around one of the strongest (in every sense) female characters to hit prime time in recent memory.

The deliciously dumb Scandal is actually a welcome sight.
April 5, 2012
It's a satisfying, fast-paced, well-acted hour with flashes of humor.

Instead of witty banter and wonky politics this drama offers meaningful monologues and lots of sex and romance.

It rings false - but it clips along at a good pace, and it has enough twists and complications to keep you guessing without making you feel abused.

Maybe Rhimes should bring in a fixer to deal with the scripts.

It's the TV show as bag of potato chips. Betcha can't eat just one.

Scandal could become a habit worth forming.

Scandal, on the other hand, shows potential in spite of a rather dreary pilot.
April 5, 2012
It's regularly preachy and far-fetched, with the key characters tending to speed-talk as though they're all in a Go-Kart race.

There's a lot of Rhimes' Grey's Anatomy formula at work here, and that's not a bad thing.

With its Washington, D.C. setting, exaggerated situations and overblown politics, feels like The West Wing for Dummies.

ABC's Scandal takes a while to pay off, too - but when it does, it does so in spades.
