It was a perfect format for Carr, whose warm, witty manner created an easy, familial vibe, and the Countdown brainbox Susie Dent served as an excellent foil.

Carr is a funny, warm host who ensures that the tone stays bright and breezy. Secret Genius reminded me a bit of The Piano, with members of the public being offered the chance to demonstrate their skills.
