Tv Season Info

Since at first she didn't succeed, it's try, try again for Carrie (Golden Globe winner Sarah Jessica Parker) when she gets another shot at romance with good-guy Aidan (John Corbett) in the comedy's fourth season. An invitation to the opening of a bar owned by Aidan and Steve (David Eigenberg) reunites Carrie with her lost love, and this time their relationship proceeds to the uncharted territories of cohabitation and---gasp!---engagement. Of course, cold feet may prevent Carrie from going where's she's never gone before, and their courtship is not without a physical confrontation---namely a brawl between Aidan and Big (Chris Noth) at the former's house in the country. Speaking of love triangles, Samantha (Kim Cattrall) explores her sapphic side in an affair with an artist (Sonia Braga), and, in what may be an even bigger surprise, flirts with monogamy when she finds herself falling for hotel magnate Richard Wright (James Remar). Meanwhile, marital woes continue for Charlotte (Kristin Davis), whose unquenchable desire to start a family leads to irreconcilable differences with Trey (Kyle MacLachlan). But the biggest roller coaster of them all is endured by Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), who has a one-night stand with a post-testicular cancer Steve that results in a pregnancy she may want to end, and, in a poignant, Emmy-nominated episode ("My Motherboard, My Self"), deals with the sudden death of her mother. Guest stars for the season, which won a Golden Globe for Best Television Series: Musical or Comedy, include Margaret Cho, Alan Cumming, Craig Bierko, Jim Gaffigan, Frances Sternhagen, Ron Rifkin, Ed Koch, Heidi Klum and Candice Bergen.

Critic Reviews for Sex and the City Season 4

The actresses display the carefree verve of the screwball greats, but with a difference: Claudette Colbert and Carole Lombard never discussed vaginas on screen.

[Sex and the City] talks of commitment and dreams, of soul mates and self-image, in ways that search for truth and meaning as well as for cheap (and hearty) laughs.

The way that writer Jenny Bicks handles an issue as prickly as abortion with grace and careful wit is this show at its finest.

The show is like a Chanel suit - it'll always be in style.

Somewhat to my surprise, Sex and the City hasn't yet passed its freshness date.

I will stand by the idea that it did what it could in a world that didn't really have a place for it when it first started out, except for curious audiences in New York who had an expensive HBO subscription.

Overall, however, Sex and the City is beginning to seem rather tame for HBO.
