Tv Season Info

Although the comedy's fifth series clocks in at only eight episodes, due to Sarah Jessica Parker and Cynthia Nixon's pregnancies, it gets lots of mileage on laughter as Carrie (Parker) focuses on another kind of relationship: her love for New York City. It's renewed during Fleet Week, a tradition that rolls out the red carpet for visiting U.S. sailors. But things are looking up for Carrie, at least professionally, when she lands a book deal for a compilation of her columns, and while the ensuing tour allows her to reconnect with a recently relocated Big (Chris Noth) in San Francisco, a launch party in New York introduces her to a potential love interest in novelist Jack Berger (Ron Livingston). Meanwhile, Charlotte (Kristin Davis) begins a second life as a single woman, though she ultimately finds herself falling---to no one's surprise greater than her own---for her divorce attorney, Harry (Evan Handler); Miranda (Nixon) struggles to adjust to life as a single mother to baby Brady, a task that doesn't get any easier when her ex's mother (Anne Meara) pushes for the child's baptism; and Samantha (Kim Cattrall) finally tires of chronic philanderer Richard (James Remar), but not before she invites her friends to his house in the Hamptons, where they attend the wedding of a sexually ambiguous cabaret singer (Nathan Lane). Series 5 guest stars also include Molly Shannon, Amy Sedaris, Lisa Gay Hamilton, Robert John Burke, Daniel Sunjata and Julie Halston.

Critic Reviews for Sex and the City Season 5

All Critics (11) | Top Critics (7)

Written and shot before Sept. 11, [...] these installments [...] reflect an increased seriousness and longing for meaning that is wholly appropriate to the times as well as to the city.

[Parker] doesn't ask for much. Just to be a sad clown, standing, half-foolishly and half-beguilingly, in the center ring of the circus while a certain female audience tells itself, I'm not like her, I'm not I'm not I'm not.

The brilliance of the new season is that the show's writers haven't opted to have the girls sweep their heartache under their dust ruffles and launch into plundering New York all over again.

Apr 18, 2018 | Full Review…

This was the first episode to be filmed after 9/11, a cataclysm that Sex and the City wisely declined to fold into its frothy, fizzy world but still managed to address in poignant, evocative fashion.

Aug 7, 2018 | Full Review…

A transitional season that was truncated because of Parker's real-life pregnancy, [...] this season feels, understandably, a bit lost.

Apr 18, 2018 | Full Review…

Still, Parker's irresistible charm keeps us on Carrie's side even as the character's act grows old.

Apr 16, 2018 | Full Review…

Plump with urbane, sneaky humor and creative juices.

Only on television would such smart young women never think about anything else except hormones.

Apr 18, 2018 | Full Review…

The show hasn't lost its charm or its sense of hopefulness.

Carrie and company may not be letting go at all. And that would be a bad thing.

Another great season of this show, Season 5 is compelling, sometimes twisted and still refreshing considering that this show already has 5 years.
