Season 2
Sex Education
Sex Education's sophomore season definitely has more going on, but by treating each new subject with care and humor, it leaves plenty of space for its characters to grow.

Critic Reviews for Sex Education Season 2

The landscape of the show might be highly artificial, with its verdant pastures, gorgeous 20-something actors, and too-perfect musical cues. But its emotional range is always recognizable, and richer than it might seem.
The Netflix series... is an extraordinarily wise comedy-drama, one that is about sex, yes, but more insistently about honesty, compassion, and self-awareness.
"Sex Education" imagines a more colorful, more livable, and more loving world. Even if it wasn't also hilarious, charming, and chock full of heart, that would be reason enough to love it.
It considers their inner lives and motivations, less concerned with what they're doing than how they feel about doing it. That empathetic approach is especially evident with the heavier story lines.
The broad point of this show, however, is that none of them has anything to be ashamed of. Everything is normal, and nothing is. As bad as it all gets, they all look fantastic and the sun still shines.
Yes, a list of the subjects it broaches might read like an attempt to score shallow titillation points, yet creator Laurie Nunn is always looking for ways to connect sexual complexities to the personal context of each character.
This season keeps the charm but struggles with point of view. Having a few growing pains is normal.
It functions as both a reflection of the real world and a glimpse of what life could be, if only we more often used the right tools to handle the hardest parts of being human. And thankfully, its second season is just as strong as its first.
This is not a show which wants to entertain you by titillation or by cracking a cheap double-meaning joke. It aims to turn on your heart above any other body part.
The centralizing of pleasure is what makes Sex Education shine and truly stand apart from other shows that address sex education in some form. It's also what makes the show so refreshing and optimistic.
While its writer Laurie Nunn has largely stuck to her winning formula, she has tinkered slightly, doubling down on more weighty themes that its female viewers will be especially thankful for.
Sex Education season two is flawless. Genuinely. From beginning to end, the first shot in the first episode to the last in the finale, not a single moment is wasted. Not a single character development or plot twist feels un-earned.
