The focus on using only common kitchen ingredients to create imitations of popular shelf snacks gives a deceptively wholesome impression of overly processed foods, without addressing the use of chemicals in most packaged snacks. Go to Full Review

Snack Vs. Chef is awkwardly formatted, and it doesn’t seem to utilize its very funny hosts very well. But the recreation round is a hoot to watch... Go to Full Review

A cooking competition that’s like a generic version of a brand-name snack food: painfully different than the real thing, but with enough of the basics to provide some empty calories. Go to Full Review

Paul B @PaulWithOpinions Feb 15 There are bad food shows. There are forgettable food shows. And then there’s Snack vs. Chef — a series that manages to take a genuinely clever premise and render it completely unwatchable. Watching trained professionals carefully source butter, milk, spices, and chocolate in an effort to mimic something originally engineered in a factory to withstand a two-year shelf life isn’t inherently absurd — it’s potentially fascinating. But the show treats the exercise with a strange earnestness, as though reverse-engineering chemically optimized snack dust is the culinary Everest of our time. Charisma isn’t optional in this format. Hosts are the glue — the tone-setters, the connective tissue between challenge and viewer. Here, the energy feels forced, the humor labored, the presence oddly grating. Instead of elevating the chefs, they distract from them. Instead of adding warmth or tension, they add noise. It’s the kind of dynamic that makes you instinctively reach for the remote. Every single one of the chefs seemed like an amateur, or more like a hobby cook rather than an actual chef. Their creations are not only painfully different from the snacks they are supposed to replicate, but they are also messy and look like C- high school projects. Still, that's not the worst part; it makes sense that the snack challenge is difficult, the worst is when they get the opportunity to create their own snacks, those creations somehow look even worse. You can even see the judges' faces, how unimpressed they are, and how bad it tastes. See more Jorge G @RT27205070 03/18/2025 "The show is grotesque and unpleasant to watch. They completely lose focus just to grab attention, making it unbearable. A disappointing experience." See more Matt C @RT92240572 10/11/2023 The cooking competition part is decently executed and a pretty cool concept. It turns out that recreating classic snacks is really difficult because the contestants barely even get close to the originals. I didn't really understand how the eliminations worked in the early rounds and it didn't make sense how winners were chosen. The "hosts" are terrible and bring nothing to the table. Painfully unfunny and cringe-inducing. The expert judges offer way more by way of commentary and are actually pretty interesting people. They actually try to shoehorn a joke in a later episode that the hosts are funny and the judges are boring. Overall, I was invested in the show despite the hosts and the somewhat shaky camera work and editing. I look forward to another season with less dead weight. See more kirathramasary1 @RT38499549 12/01/2022 This wasn't a cooking or baking show, this was about mentally deranged people who are confused about their gender, being put on a pedestal. They claim to be food science orientated but there isn't much talk about that. The contestants have no skill and are only on the show for their mental health issues, to be paraded like animals in a zoo. See more Read all reviews
