Sneaky Pete: Season 2 (2018)

SEASON:

Season 2
Sneaky Pete

Critics Consensus

Sneaky Pete's sophomore season replicates its predecessor's finesse with narrative sleight of hand and deliciously twisted capers, although Bryan Cranston's gravitas is sorely missed.

Tv Season Info

A con man, Marius (Giovanni Ribisi, Avatar) who left prison only to find himself hunted by the vicious gangster he once robbed. With nowhere else to turn, he took cover from his past by assuming the identity of his cellmate Pete, "reuniting" with Pete's estranged family. In the new season, Marius is on the verge of starting fresh, when two thugs, believing he is Pete, threaten to kill the family unless he takes them to Pete's estranged mother Maggie (Jane Adams, Twin Peaks) and the millions she stole from their mysterious employer. Now Marius must tread a dangerous line to find the elusive Maggie, protect the family, and keep up the Pete con, all while finagling a way to ditch the thugs and keep the money for himself.

It's a lot of fun.

All three of these arcs - as well as a loosely tied conflict between Otto (Peter Gerety) and a young hitman - run throughout Season 2 and effectively create tension through alternatively cute and unnerving short cons within the longer cons.

The second season of 'Sneaky Pete' is as good as the first. [Full Review in Spanish]

Jun 5, 2019 | Full Review…

In two seasons the series perfectly carries on that mix of sharp dialogue, family drama and shocking violence - an amiable mix of Ocean's 11 with Breaking Bad - through its bail bonds and con artist worlds.

Yost and company not only crafted a complex central mystery, but they also littered each episode with a bounty of mini conundrums and cons for the characters to solve.

Mar 16, 2018 | Full Review…

The double crosses get ever more complex as the new characters troop in, but the devious minds behind Sneaky Pete keep things clear, crisp, fast, often funny, unhurried yet without the sprawling bloat that afflicts so many streaming shows.

Mar 13, 2018 | Full Review…

Sneaky Pete is of a certain style. And one that it does quite well. But without Cranston as the magnetic heavy at the center of the action, the effort it takes to keep up your investment might be more challenging than last season.

Mar 12, 2018 | Full Review…

Sneaky Pete is built on clockwork-precision pleasures, fine actors and witty dialogue and plotting that turns every minor problem into a life-threatening incident.

Mar 9, 2018 | Rating: B+ | Full Review…

The second season of Sneaky Pete boasts a lot of similar strengths to the first. The show crafts elaborate, complex stories of mistaken identity, bold con jobs, and potent family drama while mostly avoiding overstuffing episodes.

Like a good sleight-of-hand trick, Sneaky Pete gets you thinking you know the score, only to blindside you with what you least expected. The degree of difficulty in pulling off such a feat, not once but twice, is commendable.

Audience Reviews for Sneaky Pete: Season 2

Characters lost a little flavor from S1 and didn't really have as many spotlight moments as they had before, and the plot dragged at parts. Only a slight downgrade from s1, very good season.

First season was good but this was shocking. With the exception of Pete, the characters are just plain irritating. I kept hoping they'd get topped. Still trying to figure out what the random penis shot was about? Most likely a ploy to distract the viewers from the horrible acting.

It’s ending twist seems cliches but it maintains great storytelling even with numerous different plot lines.
