If I could give it 0 starts, I'd do it. This whole show was simply a cheesy B-level series with too much budget thrown into it - and the money didn't help. First of all, the most memorable impression after watching it is the amount of crying which would put Latin telenovelas at shame. It desperately tries to be emotional, but fails horribly. Maybe because the acting is so bad that you simply can not connect to any of the characters. Maybe because the plot is all over the place with no clear direction and suffers from a severe case of deus ex machina extravaganza. Maybe because characters die and are being revived on a whim of the authors, making all of the emotional charge completely pointless. Or maybe it's because a lot of the crying and "emotions" is forced and completely out of place. And that's all only if you watch it as a stand-alone show. If you watch it as Star Trek - oh, man... Where to even begin. First of all, the authors of this overblown telenovela had the audacity to literally end the Federation, in the most blatant and dumb way possible. That's just disrespectful to generations who grew up with Star Trek which the authors of this junk simple didn't have right to. Second, but not less important, it has no connection whatsoever to what Start Trek really is. It really looks like the authors hated Star Trek universe so much that they were ready to blow insane amounts of money just to ruin the whole universe and everything it represents. I would not recommend it to anyone. Even if you are not a Star Trek fan, this show is objectively really bad in all of its aspects - even if you watch it as a stand-alone show outside of the official Star Trek universe.

Mikey's TV Review: Star Trek: Discovery As a long-time fan of pretty much every incarnation of Star Trek, I personally found Discovery to be somewhat ‘hit and miss' from the start. However, over time I really warmed to the cast (yes, even Michael), and while Saru (a fabulous Doug Jones) remained my main draw, brilliant turns from the likes of Michelle Yeoh, Tig Notaro and David Ajala kept me coming back. Rewatching the show from the start there are actually some outstanding episodes - That Hope Is You Part 1, Terra Firma Part 2, The Sound Of Thunder, Forget Me Not) and I have to say, it's a hell of a lot more 2nd time around! Mikey's TV Rating: 3/5*

The people giving this one star are the same people who use the term "woke agenda" on a regular basis. For them, the "woke agenda" includes any TV show/movie that has characters who are not white, not straight, or characters in interracial relationships. If this describes you, just skip the show because you're going to write some nonsense review about how nobody cares about "American values" anymore. I'm going to leave this review for every season. This is such a fantastic show, but some people just really hate the fact that it's no longer 1950.

Just when Season Two was starting to get good... This cringeworthy stinker of a season happened. I can't imagine what the writers were thinking. The only explanation is that they felt the need to be able to ret-con Star Trek without having to pay any attention to established canon. (Not that they did really anyway, ) The character of Jett Reno is particularly grating. Presumably they were going for the wisecracking smart-ass everybody loves. Instead she ends up coming across as an unlikeable, unfunny asshole, managing to take that dubious crown from the Anthony Rapp's "Genius" Lt. Cmdr Stamets whose primary attempt at acting seems to be blinking excessively when trying to process what he's being told. If you're looking for a bunch of whiny millennials who can barely manage to do their jobs and who need constant ego-stroking to keep from imploding, this show is for you. Trek has always been somewhat left-wing, but If you especially enjoy injections of early 21st century political correctness in the form of verbal hand-slapping for misgendering and virtually every major character who isn't a non-human being either gay or non-binary then you should watch. This is less Science Fiction than it is 90210 in matching blue outfits. If you're looking for classic Star Trek that adheres at least somewhat closely to Canon, is far less heavy-handed in their messaging and maintains at least some of the "Wagon-trains-in-space" Sci-fi flavor of TOS give Star Trek: Strange New Worlds a look. I do like Tilly though...

As a show that calls itself Star Trek, this is bad on so many levels. Crews are promoted to captain without any qualifications, no professional conduct, deeply unlikable characters, incredibly lazy writing which revolves around this: ">X< happens that threatens >Y<, crew shares their emotions about the problem and in the end Michael Burnham saves everything by doing >Z<". This show should be called "Female Jesus in space".

      • Aug 20, 2023

This is a series that should not have been added to the Star Trek universe. It does not stay true to the positive and optimistic view of the universe that has always defined Star Trek.

      • Jul 17, 2023

I didn't think I could honestly hate a Star Trek show. I keep watching it, I don't know why (mostly, I know I'm a fan and enjoy the micro "cameo mentions" of things from the past, according to this thing).

      • Jul 10, 2023

No more discovery, just a bunch of cry-babies running around.

      • Jun 03, 2023

There is some intention to make this feel like real Star Trek, trying to make it character driven, but sadly, it is far from it, mainly because of failed story ideas and very very poor character and dialogue writing. And it gets only worse from season to season. Same as the JJ movies: This should not ever be considered to be a part of the Star Trek Universe.

Not getting any better or learning from past seasons. It insists on doubling down on the same.
