Up to this point, the series has been languid and awkwardly paced. In contrast, ‘Farewell’ is pure breathless momentum, wrapping up the 2024 plotline in under twenty minutes, and spending the rest of its runtime on a series of quick set-ups for next year.

In terms of finales, ["Farewell"] answers all our questions, ties up the loose ends, and manages to surprise us with one last bit of Star Trek: The Next Generation fan service. I just wish it was more fun to watch.
