Critic Reviews for Ted Lasso Season 1

All Critics (49) | Top Critics (16)

You can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs and as Jason Sudeikis' Ted Lasso rounds into its final two episodes, doubters such as myself end up with more and more yolk on their face.

On Ted Lasso, American innocence, humility, and heroism are all alive and well-and you don't have to consciously notice any of that for it to bring you comfort.

Ted Lasso is a pleasure, which took me by surprise... Turns out, it's a sweetly cheerful comedy, and the Ted Lasso character, a dumb-American buffoon in the ads, has been made into a big-hearted, optimistic, even charming guy.

"Ted Lasso" could benefit from a bit more from Keeley and from trimming a few minutes from most episodes, but Lawrence crafts such a welcoming space it's hard to complain too much about overfilling it.

The story's gooey nature is fair game, but it's nearly maddening by how unfunny it is, specifically being based around someone the world could use more of.

Funny, feel-good sports series has some strong language.

It's not just a sports comedy -- it's a perfectly executed fantasy.

I believe in Ted Lasso and I hope you do too.

Oct 6, 2020 | Full Review…

What takes Ted Lasso from an amusing distraction about an idiot American to one of the most lovable new shows of 2020 is its enormous heart.

Oct 1, 2020 | Full Review…

Sudeikis does a great job of taking this one-time character to a new level. It feels honest, rather than a skit, and I found it to be the perfect prescription for an otherwise despondent year, offering some much needed levity.

I am pleased to report that Ted Lasso - the first three episodes of which are available now, with new ones dropping on Fridays - is good. Very good.

Aug 25, 2020 | Full Review…

It might work, might not, but it's a glossy production, with Richmond made to seem very Notting Hill, and Sudeikis is likeable enough.

Ted Lasso is a very good TV show. Give it a watch if you haven't. You don't have to like soccer to like it. I'm not a soccer fan, but it's very enjoyable. It's almost a masterpiece. It's very sweet, heartfelt, funny and inspiring. Great show! Kind of refreshing in this day and age.

Best show on TV in quite some time. Devoured it. It's what our world needs. It's as comforting and uplifting as it is clever, hilarious, perfectly cast & performed.

This show has been a breath of fresh, given how bad 2020 is. Ted Lasso gets better with each episode and is truly funny. It is light-hearted, and I found myself looking forward to each new episode.

Wasn't expecting much, but got far more. It is amazing to see an American based show, do the UK justice. The humor, language, and interactions seem genuine and you actually root for Ted Lasso. It doesn't help that I now also have at least 3 fake football chants stuck in my head.

Topped of every week with a witty, charming and unfailingly optimistic example of how we can conduct our lives. I was inspired.

So I am American.... and a Wigan fan.... we beat Man City for the FA Cup and then got relegated 3 or 4 days later... and unfortunately got really screwed by Administration this year.... But this such a FUN show to watch.... Hang out with a bunch of Londoner's at work.... and we all follow the EPL.... and they also love this show... it shows more of what really goes inside of Locker rooms that most people might not know.... All I got to say.... Watch It !!!! It is really a show that actually makes you feel good..... after you watched it..... Not like the News or most other shows.... Nice there is a POSITIVE show for once.... no matter the Finale.....
