Season 1
Terra Nova

Critics Consensus

The excessive exposition can be a lot to keep up with, but Terra Nova boasts vappealing visuals and the potential to be a truly compelling series.

It drags a bit in the middle, but the sci-fi series sets up one of the most fascinating worlds in TV's history.

Would it have been so hard to make the present day just the slightest bit interesting -- or, at the very least, worth saving?

The kiddies will want to check out the dinosaurs, but children will probably wander off pretty quickly when they see how rarely their ancient reptilian friends are on screen.

Terra Nova certainly doesn't lack ambition and scope, which is a plus. But its first two hours fall short in the storytelling department.

After you've suspended about a 10-year supply of disbelief, Fox's new epic drama Terra Nova turns out to be an okay adventure story.

Indeed, it is hard to knock Terra Nova overall, such does it succeed on its own terms, which involve working over the pituitary brain and the sympathetic soul.

There's nothing good about Terra Nova.

For a television series the CGI was often breathtaking, and that's one of the things that made it so notably interesting.

The show looks great, as I said, but there is an exception to this greatness, and that's the CGI dinosaurs.

Less abysmal, really, than overly familiar.

The futuristic elements are great, with all of the technological advances, but add that to the ridiculously historic atmosphere... and it is a recipe for success.

Certainly starts off in a suitably epic manner.

Audience Reviews for Terra Nova: Season 1

  • Aug 14, 2020
It started well, well, well. And it ended badly, badly, badly. With the cast and production I expected much more. Effects to be desired, boring story and an ending suspended in the middle. Disappointment ...

I watched the first two eps of this and was so bored I didn't finish the second. I watch the Magicians and felt the same. I watched the first half of ep 01 of Eureka and was seriously entertained. Great writing. great acting. great actors. Humour. I will give all three shows a fair try, however - Maybe they'll improve.

fue buena en su época, es arriesgada en ocasiones y esto le dio un toque distinto, además que la trama tiene un poco de esto un poco de aquello y llega a ser divertido con su trama

SO unfortunate they cancelled it, it was just getting interesting. first few episodes were not as good as the last ones
  • Jun 09, 2019
A series very well made, good actors, the plot and special effects well achieved, I do not know why this series was suspended if it is a series very well achieved.
  • Apr 11, 2018
Interesting premise that has been waisted because not enough Dinosaur screentime

Terra-ble. See what I did there? Steven Spielberg seems to have lost his fascination with WWI I and the holocaust in particular and Gone back to dinosaurs. For my Money, this had worn thin way before the end of the jurassic Park series and this hardly adds anything to a tired genre. LikeWise, Environmental degradation as a sci fi topic is exhausted and has been done way Better than this. Interesting to see that This site mentions the visuals as being Appealing. I thought They were dated beyond belief. The Shannon family aren't the only ones who've gone back in time. .

(Late review I know) Weird both critics AND audience giving this series a thumbs up and still it was cancelled? Well, it was afterall produced by FOX and they are very triggerhappy with the "Cancell button". Sad it was rather a breath of fresh air in many ways as it goes away from the usual "Blasteverythinginsightwithrayguns" recipe and instead concentrated on real people trying to solve ordinary problems in a prehistoric setting. You get into the story really quick at the beginning and overall the series almost spellbinds you to watch for more. This series had serious potential - too bad FOX cancelled it without even giving it a chance.

The plot is interesting because of how realistic it is. Has a very high production value, with excellent visuals. The first 2 episodes were alright. There was something that happened during that interested me enough to watch the whole series. After that, it's not very good. It doesn't start to pick up until about halfway through at episode seven. But then it drops back down for the next 3 episodes. It ends very well, with the last three episodes being VERY GOOD. If it hadn't had a strong ending, the show wouldn't even be fresh. Overall, the show looks great, but lacks very much intrigue, and isn't very good for the majority of the season, but then ends VERY well! The ending was good for a season ending, but not necessarily for a series ending.

Sometimes having almost laughably bad CGI creatures, Terra Nova still has awesome writing, action and acting put in great environment and set pieces.
