Tv Season Info

Axl Johnson (Emmett Skilton) learns on his 21st birthday that he and his three older brothers are reincarnated Norse gods, and that there are a group of goddesses hell-bent on killing him in the first series of this drama. While Mike (Tim Balme), Anders (Dean O'Gorman) and Ty (Jared Turner) Johnson all seem to have special gifts, Axl's new godly role only seems to come with a quest—and not a very easy one at that! Axl must find the goddess Frigg in order to restore his brethren to their full powers and keep disaster from striking his entire family. Making life even more complicated for the guys are the women they are involved with: Axl's roommate Gaia (Keisha Castle-Hughes) has romantic feelings for him; Mike is trying to conceive a child with his wife Valerie (Roz Turnbull); Anders enters into a blood oath with a power-hungry goddess named Michele (Michelle Langstone); and Ty falls hard for Anders' assistant Dawn (Fern Sutherland).

It is a mix of godly concerns and Earthly troubles, held together with sly wit.

This Kiwi extract is a cut above. And while the feeling isn't quite like being struck by Thor's proverbial thunderbolt, for a hardy few who don't mind their gods in street clothes, it will be easy to develop a sizable crush on The Almighty Johnsons.

As in Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Xena: Warrior Princess, the epic and preposterous blend profitably with the commonplace and casual.
