Wisely, the miniseries does not incur certainties of any kind nor does it lecture, even if it points out all kinds of darkness and miseries. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

[El Caso Asunta] discloses the facts and heightens the mystery of what is not known, offering a psychological profile of the accused that allows at least to understand the reasons for their silence... [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

The Asunta Case is worth watching to learn about a case that rocked Spain back in the 2010s, but it feels like the creators are taking a very complex case and oversimplifying it, eliminating a lot of the grey areas... Go to Full Review

Paula M @Pwrm21 Dec 26 The acting was good, but I didn't like the production. I watched in the US and the voice overs were awful, really bad. While I had never followed the original trial and associated media, I felt the documentary made the parents pathethic, weak characters. Almost like they deserved to go to prison, even if they didn't do it. The real parents couldn't have been this bad. See more Anthony G Apr 24 A fine ensemble cast in another of Netflix' intelligent & understated gems that isn't American or British. Candela Pena's performance is both chilling & vulnerable. See more Luke T Apr 5 Absolute rubbish. I don’t know the pretense everyone else went in with but I watched it on Netflix where the synopsis made out that there was a dark twist that would shock everyone regarding the truth of what really happened. Instead, it was 6 drawn out episodes where they suspected the parents, put a case together, went to trial, found them guilty, and then sent them to prison. No twist, no revelation, just one track, from A to B, and at snails pace. Do yourself a favour and watch something else. (ENGLISH) The challenge of turning a highly publicized case into a series is keeping the audience engaged without simply repeating what the media has already covered. El caso Asunta manages to do this to some extent, mainly thanks to its strong cast, though it struggles to offer a fresh perspective that makes it truly essential. Candela Peña and Javier Gutiérrez are outstanding. She portrays Rosario Porto with depth, making her a complex and difficult-to-categorize character, while he perfectly conveys Alfonso Basterra’s ambiguity. Together, they create an undeniable tension in every scene, even though we already know how the story ends. The series is well-made and avoids falling into easy sensationalism, but it doesn’t stray from the well-known narrative. It doesn’t try to reinterpret events or provide a new perspective; instead, it presents the story just as it was originally told. For those familiar with the case, it might feel more like a high-quality reenactment rather than a fresh take on the story. Even so, El caso Asunta is a well-crafted production with strong performances and a steady pace that holds attention until the end. For viewers unfamiliar with the case, it serves as a solid and well-told introduction. But for those who already know all the details, it leaves the feeling that it could have explored the gray areas of this tragedy in greater depth. See more Kristine A @Miel94 02/02/2025 It was very sad & interesting, but I don’t love the way it was portrayed. The 5th episode was super confusing because they showed the ways that it could have happened, but at first I thought they were showing what DID happen. It felt flat a lot of the time, too, but it was only 6 episodes and I’m still glad I watched it. The actors did a great job, especially Porto. See more William F 09/15/2024 Dreadfully sad, very well acted and absorbing reenactment of an actual case. The whole time one is hoping something will emerge that will let the foster-parents off the hook ... A slight fault I found was that the film sometimes showed what the police were reconstructing as a possible scenario, as if it had really happened like that, so that in the end it was a bit difficult to sort out what was reconstruction and what was supposed to have been the real course of events. One felt sorry for the wife/mother but also felt that her personality (under the influence of medication) was a kind of swamp into which one would step and never get out. They didn't show much of the girl victim (their adopted daughter) but on the whole that was probably wise as it would have taken one in too much and distracted from the parents, who were the real case study.
