What to Know

Critics Consensus

The Beast buries the lead of its intelligent concept with hyperbolic drama and ham-fisted dialogue.

The people behind this newscast exposé really do seem to think they're saying something profound about the state of modern broadcast journalism. They don't seem to have noticed that The Beast is preposterous at every turn. Go to Full Review
Howard Rosenberg Los Angeles Times 02/11/2020
Life is a jump-cut here, and events are as sped-up in this drama as in the accelerated news phenomenon it portrays with a self-conscious, heavy hand, giving shrill resonance to issues that some media observers have been citing for years. Go to Full Review
Caryn James New York Times 02/11/2020
It takes about 10 minutes for ''The Beast'' to turn into a conventional, badly written drama, loaded with stock characters. Go to Full Review

The pilot offers a compelling if ambiguous take on the timely question of whether to televise an execution, and the cool confidence of [Frank] Langella's portrayal compensates for Jason Gedrick's posturing as a leather-jacketed outlaw journalist. Go to Full Review

02/05/2016 I recently watched this to Honor Patrick Swayze's memory and apart from a few cliched episodes that we have all seen before it wasn't too bad and the season thread line did get better as the show progressed and could have gone on if circumstances had been different. So thank you Patrick for everything you gave us and and my thanks to Travis Fimmel for this and Vikings may your future be as bright as the stars above See more Read all reviews
