Meet Jack McLaren, a smooth-talking advertising executive with one big flaw: a competitive streak a mile wide. Jack has just been fired from his latest job after he couldn't bring himself to let the president of the United States beat him at golf, costing his company their largest account, the U.S. Army. Now Jack has set up an agency of his own, staffed by the creative team that had been dismissed along with him: cranky creative director Carl, high-strung Ivy League accountant Erica, efficient secretary Suzy and Bruno, a young copywriter. At home, Jack rarely gets the best of his free-spirited daughter, Alex.

In short, "The Closer" ain't quite there yet, but has obvious potential. Go to Full Review
Tim Goodman San Francisco Chronicle 08/14/2019
[Tom] Selleck is about as unlikable as free money. He doesn't play a jerk very well. Go to Full Review
Howard Rosenberg Los Angeles Times 08/14/2019
[Tom] Selleck is noisily revved up to distraction here. After paying his dues as a dramatic actor as well as displaying a comedic side from time to time, he surely can do better than this. Go to Full Review
Scott D. Pierce Deseret News (Salt Lake City) 08/14/2019
The premiere episode of "The Closer" picks up steam as it rolls along - a good sign. The first half is pleasant but not particularly funny, while the second half remains enjoyable and is loaded with laughs. Go to Full Review

Though never less than engaging, [Tom] Selleck seems miscast as Jack McLaren, a Denver advertising man known for his ability to close any deal with the perfect pitch. Go to Full Review
