Angela Rance believes something is very wrong in her home. Plagued by increasingly frightening nightmares, she isn't the only one in her family suffering: her husband Henry is slowly losing his mind, while their older daughter spends all of her time locked in her room and the younger one believes she hears strange noises coming from inside the walls. Desperate, she turns to Father Tomas Ortega -- the progressive leader of their suburban Chicago parish -- setting him on a collision course with old school Vatican soldier Father Marcus Brennan, as all their fates become entangled in a battle against an ancient force of evil.

James B @James_B Jul 5 Not as good as season 1 the exorcist is still a solid show with convincing performances and characters. See more Daniel S Jun 8 A Decent Effort, But Falls Short The show has its moments and offers some entertainment value—especially for fans of the original movies. However, it ultimately falls short of its potential. One of the main issues lies in its network placement. Being produced for Fox limited its creative freedom; had it been developed by HBO or another premium cable channel, it could have explored darker themes and deeper character development, much like the films. As it stands, it never quite reaches the same level of intensity or quality. Character-wise, many of them felt unlikable or underdeveloped, making it hard to stay invested. The plot was fairly predictable, with few surprises. Season two starts off promising but quickly descends into repetition and loses momentum, dragging the story far longer than necessary. In the end, it's easy to see why the show was cancelled. While not entirely without merit, it’s a missed opportunity that never fully lives up to the legacy of its cinematic predecessor. See more Shelly S 09/11/2024 I loved the first season, but series 2: SERIOUSLY??!! After only six months in training, Thomas is allowed to take the lead. Apparently, pleading with the possessed to "stay with me" is now part of the exorcism ritual and a scene has been stolen from Kubrick's The Shining. I was actually clutching my sides with laughter by the end. Good for a laugh, but I'm not sure that's what was intended. Very disappointing. See more Lucas G 08/04/2024 Second season is very good but it could have been excellent. It has a darker, more curated visual style than season 1, that was never really scary, and a more compelling story. Spoiler alert. Swapping the creepy little girl for the totally not scary pretty dead wife to incarnate the demon was a real mistake, and the show becomes a bit meh when it should be at its climax. She is completely not-threatening . Also the abuse of visions and dreams… that is always a very bad idea and the fastest way to disengage with the story. The problem with this show is that it never unleashes its true horror potential, it feels too prudish in that sense. It feels like a lost opportunity. See more babarizam D 11/15/2023 I think second season was a nightmare and that's why show got cancelled. First one was amazing See more Gareth v @geewah 06/24/2023 Strays slightly from what made the the movie and first season so good and for that it suffers. In hindsight, the tv show should of stuck to being a limited series. See more Read all reviews
