Critic Reviews for The Expanse Season 3

All Critics (25) | Top Critics (4)

The Expanse isn't perfect television, but entering Season 3 it is undeniably confident about the story it's telling, and more importantly the kind of stories it wants to tell.

The Expanse is one of those shows that easily lives up to its name. Not only does the title evoke the vast and dangerous emptiness of space, but this is a show crammed full of detail and interaction.

A great season with stimulating and fascinating science fiction. [Full Review in Spanish]

Expanse Season 3 is fantastic, high-budget sci-fi that delivers all I want out of the genre with style. Can't recommend you check it out enough!

In a lesser show, some of these developments might come off as cheesy or convoluted, but here they feel like a shot of juice straight to the veins as we eagerly followed the protomolecule and Holden's seemingly fated collision course.

That's an overwhelming amount of mostly good science fiction. But hear me out: The Expanse is better than all of these shows. Need proof? Thomas Jane is in it and he has the most hideous haircut I've ever seen.

It hit its narrative stride this year, as all the pieces from the first two seasons' many narrative threads at last came together to form a cohesive whole.

Chatham and Mitchell are both talented actors, so pairing them together in an almost mother/son dynamic was a great move by the writers. Hopefully, Season 4 will develop their relationship even further.

Dec 21, 2018 | Full Review…

The end of The Expanse's third season has arrived and in a drawn fashion perfectly befitting the rather solid season that it has led up to.

This finale would have left the series on a satisfying note, wrapping up some of the bigger storylines, and leaving on an optimistic note that humanity could put aside their differences and work together,

Audience Reviews for The Expanse: Season 3

Exceptional series. The suspense, the storyline and the acting all make for a great watch. It shows that a good book can really make a show work. I love the realistic tech showing where we as humans can get too. I also like the unique cultures and dialogue and morphology that form in the different worlds (which would totally happen if not to a greater extent). Some of the acting is a little bit woody, but it is transcended by everything else (thats why 4.5 instead of 5)

Amazing, everything looks great and the story is compelling. I've only seen complaints that the show is "hard to follow" and "not explained enough." That makes it far better than any other sci-fi I've seen, in my opinion. No midi-chlorians or petty space gods controlling the action, just the great unknown. ("The Expanse" is the perfect title.) Humanity is way in over its head, facing something beyond their comprehension, and we just keep bickering about where somebody was born or the language they speak. Both realistic and terrifying, but also inspiring at times.

Awesome complex and entertaining characters with some really tense nail biting moments.

    Best Science Fiction ever.

Amazing series. Awful audio volume mixing. Great characters, good pacing, great visuals.
  • Jul 17, 2019
Better and better. Cast chemistry is phenomenal.

    In love with this show!
  • Jul 03, 2019
The Expanse was good with season 1 and 2 but season 3 is without a doubt the best sci-fi season of any show I have see to date.

    just keeps getting better

Read the books and liked em, watched the show and adored the story even more. I think casting did an amazing job interpreting the characters. So far all the seasons have exceeded my expectations. The special effects aren't mind blowing, but neither were Firefly's.
