The greatest sitcom of all, which started on the margins of plausibility and raced on through remarkably credible episodes of incredibility, was The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin. Go to Full Review

With a perfect central performance by Leonard Rossiter, a man who could make the concept of jittery look calm, The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin is, if you like, a stealth drama. It rides on the wheels of sitcom, but it is a far deeper, darker vehicle. Go to Full Review

[Reginald Perrin] continues to reinvent himself: first as a retail tycoon, then as a lifestyle guru. Delightfully for us, less so for him, he takes both his discontent and his tormentors with him. Go to Full Review

I'm sure there are ample comedic payoffs to be found in that set up, particularly with these characters, but somehow series three missed them completely. Go to Full Review

With the exception of the first and last episode, this really does represent the nadir of the show, which descends into those typical racist and homophobic shenanigans that characterise 1970s British comedy. Go to Full Review

Test T @TestTest1 Nov 1 I watched this on DVD recently after watching series 1 & 2. The approach in this series is different. The story is less connected than before, and the comedy seems more forced, being focussed around a series of sketches which I often found disjointed. That said, these sketches are still extremely funny and had me laughing out loud on numerous occasions. At times it has an almost improvised comedy workshop feel about it which can take the story off course, only to be pulled back at the start of the next sketch, but it's still extremely funny, perhaps even more so than the first two series. Ultimately, how you feel about this series will depend on what you are looking for. If you just want to watch funny comnedy with familiar characters this series is great, but if you want a deeper coherent story, series 1 & 2 are much better. I really enjoyed this series and rate it highly. See more Read all reviews
