Critics Consensus

The Great Indoors serves up one repetitive, formulaic joke, though the cast performs respectably within the significant constraints of the material.

The show just alienates too much of its potential audience; an audience that by the show's own admission is easily offended, and probably won't stick around once it realizes it's the butt of some ill-conceived jokes.

The show's ignorance feels totemic, though-there's nothing wrong with poking fun at younger folk, of course, but it's can't be the premise of an entire television series, certainly not one with any hope of a future.

The Great Indoors, while far from great, is the freshest, wittiest new comedy on CBS this fall.

The Great Indoors has at least the potential to grow into something better. But it might not be worth that second look if not for Stephen Fry.

Still, despite how broad and obvious the humor is, the show does manage to be funny a good deal of the time.

Ageism isn't only aimed at today's elders. In the sad case of CBS' The Great Indoors, it can also be applied to millennials.

The Great Indoors is passably amusing, even if you can see just about every punch line coming.

This new sitcom starring Joel McHale is a kind of self-negating machine: It's aimed at millennials yet making fun of them constantly, and aimed at McHale fans while putting the star in his least-flattering light.

With its office-as-asylum atmosphere, Great Indoors echoes NewsRadio, not a bad influence. You might want to stay inside yourself to catch this.

The Great Indoors isn't just annoying because it's not funny, but because it simplifies everything - from character interactions to the mind space of an entire generation - for the sole purpose of one tiring joke: millennials are dumb.

A painfully predictable, boring show making fun of the younger generation. Ultimately forgettable and a waste of time.
  • Jan 12, 2017
I oh so love the entire cast a lot and I seriously hope that it gets a whole lot better and keeps on improving each time every time every here and there ?.

Horribly written garbage. Don't waste your time
  • Dec 29, 2016
It's like a bad SNL skit that just won't end. The acting is subpar, and the jokes are stale. The story has potential if it wasn't so poorly executed and written.
