Critic Consensus: An outstanding cast and sporadically sharp humor make The Guest Book worth checking out, even if its anthology formula leads to a bumpy journey from episode to episode.

It's a layered, twisted structure as complicated as the intermingled plot twists of Curb Your Enthusiasm or Arrested Development. And yes, Guest Book deserves mention in that same company.
The show lives and dies on the strength of its episode-to-episode stories. A few of them are entertaining enough, but a show that's still in search of its strengths still keeps it from being a reliable trip worth taking every week.
The 30-minute comedy has a lot of promise and since it is an anthology, it gives the show room to explore different story arcs.
Is the show funny? Sort of. It's certainly charming, in a frequently vulgar sort of way, and well performed by the cast and guest stars.
