Season 1
The Guest Book

Critics Consensus

An outstanding cast and sporadically sharp humor make The Guest Book worth checking out, even if its anthology formula leads to a bumpy journey from episode to episode.

It's a layered, twisted structure as complicated as the intermingled plot twists of Curb Your Enthusiasm or Arrested Development. And yes, Guest Book deserves mention in that same company.

The show lives and dies on the strength of its episode-to-episode stories. A few of them are entertaining enough, but a show that's still in search of its strengths still keeps it from being a reliable trip worth taking every week.

The 30-minute comedy has a lot of promise and since it is an anthology, it gives the show room to explore different story arcs.

Is the show funny? Sort of. It's certainly charming, in a frequently vulgar sort of way, and well performed by the cast and guest stars.

Hijinks happen in irreverent comedy's mysterious cabin.

Mr. Garcia's style of humor tends to be sophomoric - sex jokes, overweight stripper sight gags and broad comedy predominates - but this style manages to blend well with the show's unique format.

It grows on you, because it sharpens as it goes along.

TBS' anthology comedy series occasionally charms despite the dearth of guffaws.

Despite boasting an impressive guest star roster that includes Stockard Channing, Danny Pudi, Lauren Lapkus, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Michaela Watkins and many other extraordinary comedy talents, the humor and characters don't feel altogether hospitable.

Jul 27, 2017 | Full Review…

For a show about the hospitality industry, The Guest Book is remarkably ungenerous, and wastes a cast that includes fine actors like Danny Pudi, Stockard Channing, Aloma Wright, and Garret Dillahunt.

Audience Reviews for The Guest Book: Season 1

I had to give this program another star for its clever stories that require paying attention to the "background" scenery. It's classic magician slight of hand in the form of goofball television. It's "Raising Hope" on the "Love Boat."

My husband & i see both left in stiches after every episode!! I really hope they make more episodes

The Guest Book is your typical cult classic TV show you either love it or you don't. Each episode is a different set of guests in the Cottage with the guest narrating their story as they write it. Each story is separate from the others however the reoccurring cast does have a continuing storyline. If you are the type of person who thinks seeing a Bear high on meth, a sweet old man turn racist and a middle aged man hitting on a young woman and trying to act like he is 20 is funny, this is the show for you.

So funny! I love the characters and the really good guest stars!

Cracks me up every time. So many great guest stars.

I'm so addicted to this show! Not sure why it hasn't gotten better reviews. Don't know much about the producers or writers but there are a lot of familiar faces on this show. Raising Hope and My Name is Earl alum abound. Same kind of humor, too. Just far more adult themed. I'm not a fan of TBS's other shows, but this one is hilarious!
