Critic Reviews for The Handmaid's Tale Season 3

All Critics (56) | Top Critics (25)

A compelling season finale.

Aug 16, 2019 | Full Review…

June -- trapped in her sequence of shock, rebellion, rinse, repeat -- doesn't feel like a person anymore.

Jun 5, 2019 | Full Review…

If not much sunnier, not as relentlessly grim as the second, while June is slowly, methodically, morphing into the Robo-June we know she must become. So far, so good.

What's obvious about "The Handmaid's Tale" works wonders. What's more opaque can create problems.

It may be too in love with the slow burn of visual storytelling, but The Handmaid's Tale still knows what it's about.

Dec 13, 2019 | Rating: 4/5 | Full Review…

From a perpetually flat June making breathtakingly stupid decisions to the ongoing cosmic joke that is this show's writer/director gender breakdown, it's hard to keep rooting for The Handmaid's Tale.

Jun 11, 2019 | Rating: C+ | Full Review…

June, Serena, and Emily have changed so much since season one, but this episode proves they have a lot more left in them and that the audience should be excited to see where they're headed.

Dec 13, 2019 | Full Review…

The Handmaid's Tale deserves to be dinged for some poor plot construction at the start of season three. But these episodes indicate that the larger story of the season will be worth it.

Dec 13, 2019 | Rating: B- | Full Review…

The Handmaid's Tale seems to be going too slowly, stretching out the story to fill the latest season.

Dec 13, 2019 | Full Review…

In terms of quality, 'The Handmaid's Tale' continues to be splendid, however one can notice a certain fear to evolve or leave the comfort zone. [Full Review in Spanish]

Audience Reviews for The Handmaid's Tale: Season 3

One of the best series you can find today

This show really took a nose-dive downward. This season was so frustrating to watch. It feels like they are purposely dragging the show out - the story is a mess, full of contradictions and characters behaving in ways that don't really make sense to how they were developed previously. The lead character who was so strong in the first couple seasons just makes one mistake after another, harming the lives of others, but acts as if she is some kind of revolutionary with no self awareness of what a horrible job she's doing. If you took a shot every time they do a close up of her intense angry eyes you'd be drunk before the end of each episode. The writing has gotten lazy and it's sad to see a good character get turned into a repetitive trope, not to mention pushing the envelope on how much unnecessary female suffering we need to go through, some of it doesn't even make any rational sense in regards to how Guilead would actually function.

    Absolutely amazing, love the cast

It's alright. The characters are annoying, but I prefer seasons 1 and 2. At least the soundtrack is good but the pacing is inconsistent. The rest of the episodes are a chore to get through.
  • Jul 02, 2020
A real drop from previous seasons. Characters don't make any sense, we are just having a shock factor, beautiful cinematography, 5 minutes close ups to June's face, the end.
  • Jul 01, 2020
This season really fell short. Repetitive story archs. A lot of tell-not-show. Not much in the mind of the characters. The actress for June is still amazing. Plot holes everywhere this season.

This show is awful. I don't get the positive reviews at all. I've grinded through season 1 and 2 and am almost done with season 3. Every episode is like watching ground hog day. Nothing advances. Each episode and every scene is the same experience over and over again. Scene 1 is "look at us, we're so oppressed", dark gloomy atmosphere and dialogue. The next scene "look, here's another way we're so oppressed", dark gloomy atmosphere and dialogue. Then the next scene, "look, here's even another way we're so oppressed", dark gloomy atmosphere and dialogue. Then let's end every episode the same way, with a June isn't going to take it anymore scene. It's time to fight back, it's time to move this script forward. We're going to start kicking ass. Then next episode comes along and it's back to "look at us, we're so oppressed.......". Season 3 is it for me. I'm done.

Elisabeth Moss es una excelente actriz que solamente se complementa con tan magistral elenco, está tercera temporada sigue manteniendo esta serie entre lo mejor.

The show's third season is quite a refreshment to the story. We don't just continue seeing the same old Gilead as in season 1. They could've just kept things the way they were before, but they didn't. They're developing the constant fall of Gilead, which is what I admire most. They keep continuing, not staying static, like most shows.
