Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Kandi Burruss, a former member of 1990s R&B group Xscape, uses her years of experience in the music industry to try to help young hopefuls jump-start their own careers. In each episode, Kandi takes two proteges with no industry experience under her wing and along with her team -- producer Don Vito, choreographer Victor Jackson and stylist Kwame Waters -- helps them master the tools they need to make it in the music business. The contestants learn choreography and go through recording sessions in an attempt to impress the mentors. The winner of each episode -- the contestant who impresses Kandi and her team the most -- receives an original song based on their personal life written by Kandi and a music video produced by her accomplished team.
