Tracey S. @bingewatch68 Nov 20 I just love this show. I love reading the subtitles even! It’s a cozy friend. I haven’t watched in a few years so I’m catching up to watch the last two seasons. I will hate for it to end. It was a jewel to find. Love how the Dutch language shares so much with English. I love how history is interwoven into the themes and characters. I love the continuity but how time doesn’t hold characters back. I love. I love. I love. This is a well throughout, ahead of its time show. It’s about what real people would have been like. Although we might think it fictitious at first but with deeper thought we can see these scenarios playing out. A tiny summer season family of well to do’s plus the staff and supporting community make up a small portion of a time that saw such great sorrow and upheaval and pure evil in the world. This Dutch show brings us that with a womanizing actor, a merchant who holds grudges, a bridge player who refuses love, her sister who lives in the clouds, the man who can see Hitler from his beer hall days, the many women in the actors life, the factory owner’s wife who has been a fool once and no more, just to name a few. So many more characters. Each superbly written with backstory and continuity of character. You smile to see them each season! Bravo! Well done! Writers, cast, crew, and those who work onset, I applaud you!!! See more Read all reviews
